Still in its early development stage, seeking financials backers through crowdfunding

http://www.planets-cube.com/index.html

Planets³ is a 3D open-world, voxel-based, role playing game(first person view).
Imagined by video game lovers, Planets³ combines the excitement of role playing with the pleasure of construction and the boundless freedom of a 3D open world space. Its intricate plot and outstanding voxel based design offers opportunities for intense action and unlimited creativity. Planets³ has been designed to promote multi-player gameplay, to share the fun with friends.
Today, in the early development stage, all the elements are in place for a first PC release. What we need now is your help to make it happen!

An average planet is 8km along each edge, which represents 3.2e+13 blocks. Yes, that’s right: thirty thousand billion blocks: 32 000 000 0000 000! The building potential from just one planet is nearly infinite.

While on a planet’s surface, the view out into the rest of the universe is nearly endless! This means even from the surface of your own planet, you’ll be able to see moons and other planets in the distance.
To ensure the game runs with a variety of graphics cards, we have implemented an algorithm of sub-resolution to be able to display a quantity of blocks a individual graphic cards can manage.

Your previous avatar were drinking a coffee. Are you done with it ? :)

While Planet³ shares similarities with minecraft, in this futur game you will be able to built your own custom caracter, you own weapons and your own vehicules from scratch.

You will also be able to play the campaign solo or coop.

As seen on planet-cube.com:
An important part of the adventure will take place in the depth of the planets [...]the player [...] will be led there by the story in order to solve mysteries and explore dungeons.

Taken from Planet³ kickstarter's page :

Roadmap
As you see some of our stretch goals are really ambitious, and developing them will take more than a year. This is why we decided to release the game in 2 parts:
  • The first release, named Planets³: Race to Space, is to be finalized, with all features complete, for the fall of 2015 and will include all the goals up to 500 000$ (with the Planets³ editor). It will take place in the first solar system, with the storyline suspended beyond that...
  • We are targeting 2017 for the release of the 'full game', named Planets³: Space Enemies, which will open onto the universe and lead to a climax story ending. Some clues will be scattered in the first opus, though mostly in annex quests and dungeons.

The alpha and private beta releases will be available for all backers who gave $20

I'm convinced and I backed it. Another game that aims to do what Minecraft did but 100 times better (like 7 Days to Die). I really hope it reaches $1 million in funding. Voxel space battles would be epic-sauce.

Yeah, I hate how all of the best ideas never get funded. The Gas Powered Games Kickstarter and Death, Inc., for example.

Not surprising. I hope it picks up because I really want it to reach the $1 million mark.

A shame The Orion Project doesn't look like it will get funded. :(

How unexpected :) now to the strech goal (i wish we could make it to the linux version, but collecting funds without kickstarter's exposure....hmm....even through steam's greenlight.....i'm not convinced !)

I think once they get an alpha or beta out, the cash is going to start flowing in. Minecraft was the same way.

There's been a lot of kickstarter games that have started without any real proper gameplay trailer in the post. A lot of people have funded games without any evidence of gameplay, and then when the product came out, they got burned and disappointed.
People just don't fund things without a small alpha demo to ensure what they're funding is actually what they want. I personally wouldn't either.

Then you look at things like Steam Greenlight, and the most useless pointless and crappy games get greenlighted. Steam seriously needs to rethink what trash they let through.

In the videos, they show gameplay footage from the engine as it stands now. There's no playable alpha because there's literally no motive to play the game right now (just lots of voxels with some trees). They only have the mechanics foundation laid.

I get what you're saying but look at 7 Days To Die. An alpha was not available until after the Kickstarter ended yet it reached all of its stretch goals (over $500,000 raised).

Steam Greenlight still doesn't make any sense to me. It never did make any sense.

That's fair enough, I just recall negativity about games getting kickstarted like GODUS, and people joining the hype train and then getting sorely disappointed when they got their product.

I'm still praying for Chaos Reborn to get its funding done. Had quite enough of the HoM&M failures since the good old ones. Could use a decent TBS by the same creator as XCOM.

Godus is a fine game. It's still clearly a beta but a bad game wouldn't suck 50 hours out of my life. XD

If they raised enough money, they would include planes, trains, and helicopters as well as loads of stuff to do in space. I hope they're going to still do that stuff even if they don't raise that much money now.
