Yep.. Im giving up on AM3+

Having gone AMD all my building life, I dont know where to start with intel..

So which model would be best for my build?

Do you want to keep your ram? If so, look at the Haswell options, specifically socket 1150. If you want to go DDR4, your options are Haswell-E (Socket 2011-v3 with 6-8 cores, but expensive) or Socket 1151 (Mainstream quadcores, still kickass and far more affordable). You'll likely want the Z170 chipset if overclocking on 1151... chipsets there get confusing but that is a safe bet.

There are some 1151 boards that support DDR3, but I can't recommend them.

PS: I did the same roughly 2 years ago. I can't say I'm happy to see another former AMD buddy switch to Intel, but... AMD ain't what it used to be in proc land. :(

Just some video/image editing and generally for games like MGSV or Fallout 4..

But I dont plan on maxing out everything with 4k just med - high, 1080p, 60fps~

Well then I recommend core i7 6700k, 16gb of ddr4 2133 or 2400mh memory, really any z170. I like MSi, Asrock and Asus motherboards. You can keep everything else in your system. But I would look into getting at least a 250gb SSD. A Samsung 850 evo comes to mind. Put the OS, your image and video editing software and any frequently played games on it. Use your 2tb for basic storage. Also look into upgrading PSUs. EVGA G2 series is excellent and great value.

If you don't like your processors running at 80+C plan on buying an aftermarket HSF.

Yeah Im planning to keep it but I'll definitely upgrade once it starts slowing down.. Also Im not a fan of overclocking since my last phenom fried my motherboard :))

I know what you mean.. they started focusing on embedded chips in consoles and stuff.. Shame really but they are getting outclassed by intel in the PC front~

Yep, i7 6700k is your best bet if not trying to save by reusing ram... which isn't the best idea IMO.

But if you must, some Haswell stuff can be found cheap as heck now. What's the best chipset to go for for Haswell guys? Number escapes me.

Don't have much choice with skylake, that said it's a pretty cool chip...

Thanks! But I'll probably hold off ddr4 up til it gets slow and the price goes down~

He can get the 6700 non k chip that comes with stick cooling. For Haswell the best chipset is Z97 or H97. But he's starting fresh, might as well get the newest.

Ddr4 memory really isn't much more expensive than ddr3, and I do not think there id a single motherboard that supports non SODIMM ddr3 modules for Skylake.

You have to look for a Haswell setup, then you can reuse your ram, and the Z97 platform, take whatever manufacturer you want or can afford, since the difference in preformance is between 1-5%. Im doing videoediting also, and for that a SSD is a blessing, is fast and sturdy for that kind of job.

Another answered EVGA G2 PSU, its a powerhorse that packs a punch:clap:.
