Hola everyone, I am currently running Z370 + 8700K OCed to 4.8GHz + 16GB 3200MHz CL14, I would like to know the best timing to upgrade that platform, so far I am playing nice on 3440*1440 with all eye candy stuff topped, I got a RTX3080 FTW3 Ultra, should I consider leveling up? if Yes, what do you recommend? AMD or Intel? I can sell the old stuff and top some cash to buy newer platform, also with the PCI 4.0 becoming a thing now, should I be worried about it? or just forget about it all and move on easily till something Big drops "Maybe in 3 years?!", thank you all in advance.

should I consider leveling up?
The real question(s) are... Do you want to level up? Doesn't the current system satisfy your needs, expectations, performance?
And level up into what? The resolution you use doesnt care much about CPU performance as long as it has the resources to drive that 3080. And 8700K is a very capable CPU. No faster CPU will actually increase gaming performance at ultrawide resolution.
GPU wise you are almost on top of food chain. Only 6900XT(+5%) and 3090(+10%) is better than your card.
PCI-E 4.0 for now only makes sense for multiple drives and storage configurations. GPUs dont benefit by it yet.

Maybe money is not an issue at all but still. I would hold on to it for at least another year if not more. 2022~23 is the time that both AMD and (hopefully) Intel will introduce completely new platforms. Current ones are ending/ended.

At 1440p you could ride that 8700k for a few more years no problem.

seems that I will do so, Hexa cores CPUs are the best now, the new 11400 is wrecking benches for a very nice price indeed, gonna keep that 8700K and I hope the motherboard doesn't die on me :D

no reason to upgrade but it's more the "i want" not the "i need" :)

if you can afford it and want to enjoy some 10900K or a 5900X... why not?

Agreed, it all comes to your need of upgrade, for now you're already killing everything, I'd wait for ddr5 and some more tasty technology to come up so you can benefit more (and I don't even considered an gpu upgrade, just by moving to AM4+ and getting some nice NVMe 4.0 would be pretty awesome) but you should consider selling if you see that you can "exchange" things without investing much more money (Since most pc parts are so expensive right now your used parts most likely are too, if you can find a way to sell your mobo and cpu for the price of an x570 or b550 and an r5 zen 3 you probably should.
