I am looking for a Player that can play 4K Blu-ray movies on Intel's X299 chipset that doesn't support Intel SGX (Software Guard Extensions).

I purchased a techPulse120 UHD USB 3.0 Type-C (it's basically a slim usb enclosure with a LG BU40N 4K/UHD optical drive in it).

I thought I could use PowerDVD18 with my Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti for 4k blu-ray playback but I cannot get that to work even using Nvidia Pixel Adapter or Nvidia Medium Filter I just get this error:
PowerDVD18.jpg

I also tried DVDFab Player Ultra 5.0.1.6 this detects Ghost in The Shell like PowerDVD does but when I try to play it I get this error:
DVDFab.Player.5.jpg

I have check their list at: DVDFab 4K UHD Drive Support the drive is listed with Firmware: FR07, TST0, BU10, CA03, A100
Mine is like Firmware 1.02 I think I am not sure to check this :fear:

I have also tried Aiseesoft Blu-ray Player as a trial again this detect the movie since Windows 10 does it, but it just stuck at:
Aiseesoft.Blu-ray.Player.jpg

So does this really mean I have to sell off my Intel Core i7-7800X and Asus Prime X299-A motherboard and go back to normal Skylake like i7-6700K and Z270 motherboard or go a Coffee Lake i7-8700K or wait for 8 core model and a Z370/390 motherboard?

In order to play UHD Blu-rays, your system must support AACS 2.0 and Intel’s Software Guard Extensions (SGX). You’ll need software to play the disc itself (CyberLink has an updated software solution set to ship in the near future), and a GPU with HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 support. AACS 2.0 also has to be implemented within the GPU driver, and no current stand-alone GPU drivers have this functionality. Finally, you need a 4K TV with both HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 support as well.

I should be able to play 4k via displayport and it sucks with no current stand-alone gpu sort so I guess I have to go away from the Skylake architecture :(

A 7700hq can play 4k with HEVC. Same goes for 8700k, any 7/8 series IGPU.

You have skylake 6 series, and the HEDT platform which doesn't have igpu so you can't use it.

What part of "You need 7th gen or higher intel" do you find most difficult? Skylake is a 6th gen part.

It doesn't change the fact that it doesn't have hardware decoding for HEVC.

Even if you don’t game the Xbox One S is the best way into 4K UHD Blu-Ray playback and also with the support of streaming offers the best expandability or you can do a Samsung UBD-K8500 which can be had around $110

Yeh because on Skylake as I wrote earlier Intel SGX was supported but not required so some manufacturers if not all by now has implemented it into their bios. I guess I will just go back to LGA1151 and get a Intel Core i7-8086K and get like a AsRock Z370 Taichi and call it a day I was planning to get a 10 core cpu for encoding but I guess I will have to go with 6 Coffee Cups instead.

Even if you don’t game the Xbox One S is the best way into 4K UHD Blu-Ray playback and also with the support of streaming offers the best expandability or you can do a Samsung UBD-K8500 which can be had around $110
I don't really use streaming services either I don't have Netflix, HBO or smth not even a TV subscription I watch all what I need around dinner time when I visit family.

We can close this thread here is just lame to see that Intel has cut off the SGX support on the LGA2066/X299 chipset even the Skylake-X CPU's are strong enough to handle it and you can't even use a Nvidia GPU I had hopes for there were a way with maybe DVDFab Player since it didn't complain about SGX but my drive which I hoped could get fixed.

I guess it's time for Coffee Cups even I didn't really want to go that way.

I don't need the SDK, for playback I need the normal SGX or am I wrong here?
I dont know maybe the sdk enables the feature too?

Usually this is done in the bios and Intel haven't unlocked this feature on the X299 sadly.

If you revert back to 6700k can you post here if the 4k blu-ray HDR feature works in windows 10?

I still think that's pathetic, have you tried contacting intel support? It makes no sense to disable a high end feature and enable it on mid range boards.

If you own skylake and it works I'd recommend using it as a dedicated pc for the 4k blu ray drive, You can be like me with like 5 pc's all with different uses haha.

Turns out intel are pulling BS

https://ark.intel.com/Search/FeatureFilter?productType=processors&SoftwareGuardExtensions=true
Any of these processors have the sgx intruction implemented into them:
As show sgx is even greyed out on the 7980xe

Quoted from the cyberlink support team
"Cyberlink is working with NVIDIA so they can support this feature on NVIDIA graphics. When available Cyberlink will announce this feature "
There's a reason it doesn't work:
SGX doesn't work on dgpu's yet - The SGX technology involves using your igpu to work the software or disabling your graphics card - for some odd reason cyberlink is still working with nvidia to support 4k uhd blu ray playback on nvidia graphics and from there the SGX technology can be added to the bios - there is no way it will work as x299 doesn't have an igpu to run the software.

@Xx Tek Tip xX it may be only time until Cyberlink can get it work, it looks like it might work with DVDFab Player if it would only accept my LG BU40N with the firmware it got on.
