Hi everyone, Hope you all doing well. Recently I got some money by saving a year. I have about 290$ saved up and I just wanted to buy a new and better PC. currently I have the "Lenovo Thinkstation S20" and I used it for 4 years and from last year I got into issues like suddenly burning of my GPUs and crashing. that's the reason I wanted to upgrade so badly. I looked up some on the internet and I decided that I have 2 choices.
1- Lenovo Thinkstation S30 (with E5-1660 V2)
2- A Ryzen Build.
in this range, I don't know what to do as in my region prices are too high for me to bear. I tried to get a Ryzen pc under this budget but I failed. I can't save up more because I tried my best already. I really need support in this matter. It's a humble request. and kindly guide me through these choices of mine as I can't bear more loss. I needed a PC with long-life durability and better performance. I want to use it for Gaming and my country is Pakistan.

The pc you are looking at has a gpu that is completely worthless for gaming. Your best bet considering your budget is buying a used PC with a ryzen APU as that would be many times better than the S30.

What is your current Thinkstation's config?
It is currently stock everything, like cpu is Xeon W3565 (i7 960), RX 570 and 8gigs ram. But in this price range I can get S30 with good cpu and 16gigs ram and with SSD.

I saw it but I didn't like the mobo as I see it can't be overclocked and most of the features are missing in it.

$290? That's not a lot to work with though if you look on eBay for a used Ryzen 1st gen 1600 ($80-100?)
b350/450 Motherboard ($50-60)
8/16GB DDR4 ($50-100?)
500w PSU (assuming yours is proprietary)

And keep your current case (if possible) and GPU/HDD's would be a much better upgrade than a 2c/4t APU or the S30

You're right but I live in Pakistan and ebay isn't in my country. Also there will be taxes and customs to pay if I order them.

if you can save up to $500, i think you will have much better options and also you will be able to build a decent computer that will last you for a while.
unfortunately that is the reality of 2021, where price increase is crazy and even the second hand parts are high..

Search in second hand for something like this:

Ryzen 3 1300X
2x 4GB DDR4 2666Mhz
Nvidia GTX 1060 6Gb
1SSD 256GB for Windows 10 64 and the most demanding games and a 1 HDD 1TB for the rest

These are the minimun specs and the better setup that i can imagine at very low price wich you can play today.

Hi everyone, Hope you all doing well...
Hello, hope you're doing fine too. That Lenovo Thinkstation S30 (with E5-1660 V2) looks good to me because of 6 core 12 threads CPU and if you put your Radeon RX 570 card (if it works still) there it will be a good upgrade.

Depending on your specific S20 model/motherboard, you should be able to upgrade to a six core W3690/X5690. 16GB of RAM and a cheap SSD will also make a difference. Check your local listings for those Xeons, because their price may not be worth the upgrade. Also, does your graphics card work?

My opinion would be to keep saving until you can get something more modern. Don't rush into something because of an itch, otherwise you're wasting your money. Make a plan, set a budget, and work towards a goal. Once you hit it, buy something half decent for yourself.

Great help guys.

I know it's hard to build something decent for $290 under the best of circumstances (let alone these days), but stating the obvious isn't much help.

Well, 1st of all, you're gonna need a good bit moar coin to get even a modestly capable gaming rig, $500-600 would be the minimum IMHO...

2nd, if your current lenovo is crapping out after only 4 years, why on earth would you wanna buy another one ?

3rd... why would you (repeatedly) want to buy rigs with locked server chips in them instead of normal consumer cpu's that can be overclocked and be much more useful and reliable for gaming ?

4th, whatever rig you do buy, just be sure to get one with a dGPU with at least 6GB of vram, preferably 8GB, as this is rapidly becoming the low-end for gaming......

good luck with your search & purchase :)

Yes it is a bad time but what will a person do if he is dying of hunger and he only have 1$ to fill his tummy?

If you're talking about a gtx 1060 then the 3gb version is 350$ in my region
