Please Help! W10 limiting ethernet download speed

I have Comcast internet with the 1200 mbps. No matter what I do I can not get my computer to hit much above 300 mbps download Here is a link to results history. https://www.speedtest.net/results?sh=86c765dd21d39a1dbf31949539a092c3

My computer is an Asrock z87 Extreme 6 with an i7 4770 slightly OC to 4.2 ghz and 20 gig of ram. Not the latest but still a pretty fast system I have updated all drivers and even tried another network card using a USB-2 interface which needed an addon card. Same results.. Last run on the Chromebook over wifi was 372 mbps.

I have a basic Asus Chromebook which gets 349 mbps over wifi Using the external ethernet connection I get 925-960 mbps.

WTH? I'm at a complete loss on what to try next. Anyone have any suggestions, this is driving me crazy!

What CAT rated cable are you using? Plus is it possible to test with a PCI-E ethernet card just to see that it's not the onboard nic that have a weird issue?

You could also try to run a iperf test between 2 devices on your network to see what your onboard nic really can do on your motherboard and then if you verify that you can get like 900-1000Mbps in iperf then try a online server.

Not a year ago I used iperf test to prove to a COAX ISP that their Sagemcom PS router was not giving the speed on LAN that they could test to COAX.

You will need a multigig ethernet adapter to see over 1000mbps. Such cards are very modern tech. You'll furthermore never see speeds even near 1000 on a usb2 card, or wifi.

Or get a 2.5G, 5G or 10G card shouldn't that be fine?

Any of those qualify as multigig, so yes.

But it's also important if he goes through and long cables or switches that they take the speed otherwise he will be back to square one.

Yeah, if not a relatively short run he should be using CAT6A cables.

If it's short you can get away with plain CAT6 or CAT5e maybe even.

I have a new cat 7 . I did test (as I said) with a USB-c to Ethernet card which gave me 920 n- 950 mbps on a Chromebook so I trust that interface, This is a short cable, 6 feet.

Thankfully not. 2.5/5G NICs rolled out in force in the last decade and a decent mid-spec 2.5G NIC can be had for barely $30.

Interested in this one, and how it pans out
Gigabit should get around the 950Mb mark reliably, although USB 2 devices wont come close
(USB 3 or PCI-E gigabit cards are the minimum)
