Hi there :),

A friend got scammed buying a fake GTX 1050Ti 4G card on french Amazon.
I told him not to buy it but he was so frustrated not finding a graphic card...
I can't open a dispute for various reasons and so i'm trying to flash his card's BIOS to at least make it work as what it really is.

Flashing it with NvFlash don't work but i have a CH431A with clip. The card seems to have 1G Vram with 8 Hynix h5gq1h24afr-toc

I already tryed to flash the Bios with EVGA, ASUS, GAINWARD, ZOTAC, MSI, COLORFUL, PNY, INNO3D, PALIT GTS 450 ones with the CH431A but it dosn't work (some white and Black line at PC booting).
I even don't know if it is a GTS 450 cause i can't Find info about GF106-150-A1

This fake card seems to be sadly very common. I tryied to find soution on the internet without success. Does anyone can help me ?

Here pictures of the card, of the chip (GF-106-150-A1), GPU-Z capture, and i also attach the orginal BIOS (just added .txt for upload) saved with a CH341A.

Regards.

They may have screenprinted those numbers back on incorrectly.
A GTS 450 is usually GF106-250-A1 unless it's a Rev.2 in which case it is GF116

Thanks for your reply.
I knew they used to erase the numbers of the chips on some fake cards, you think they could have wrote strange numbers ? (crazy chineses people )
Effectively i can't find any information about this GF106-150-A1 but they appear to be some to buy from chinese websites.
Because none of the GTS 450's Bios worked for me (I Try one of each brand i can find on TechPowerup database) is there another way to figure what my chip could be ?
GPU-Z said GF106 too...

The only link I could find for GF106-150-A1 was on Alibaba. It's clearly a fake/re-etched chip. Interestingly they mention 2011 in the listing title.

In 2011 the GTX 5XX series was launched, so it's possible it's a GTX 560 1024MB or something close to this?

This is total guesswork of course :)

Thanks, i will try some GTX 560 Bios, but without alimentation connector on the card i'm afraid it's probably time wasted.
Crazy thing they re etched the chip with non existing model ^^
Do you thing the PCB itself correspond to any brand design or it's a chinese "custom" layout ?

It's likely a custom board. There's apparently no limit to how low they'll go to make a profit, lol.

The chip really looks like a GF106 visually (can't be a GTX 560 when i look at it)
Also the only GF106 of 2011 seems to be for GT 555M (or Quadro 2000D)
The problem is that i can't find any GT 555M Bios for testing :-(

I wonder, if there a way to edit original Fake BIOS to keep all settings but make the card to be recognize as a GTS 450 and so install GTS 450 driver ?

You could try change the amount of Vram in the Bios to the correct amount.

Already tryed NiBitor 6.06 but it says "The current Bios device id is unknow" and propose me to choose from Geforce 6,7,8 or Fx series. Dosn't fill my case. Also haven't problem of Vram amount, what i would change is the card model/device Id and it seems not possible anyway.

For the return, my friend simply let the delay pass...

If the Bios that came on the card worked, you should leave that on and change the Vram amount to the correct amount of 1GB by editing the Vbios.

Thank Adam, i will try those bios.

Sorry Caring, i don't understand. The Vram is one thing, but the main problem is windows think the card is a 1050ti, so i can't install working driver. Yes the card "works" but no chance my friend could play (he only play to Elder Of scrolls Online or old games). And niBiTor dosn't recognize my card...

And also i wonder is the VGA port just an integrated adapter, on sign it could be another chip than all this gf106 ?

Let me look closely. You have this ram.

Your card has 8x1Gibibit chips. 1Gibibit(Gb) is 0.125 GibiByte(GB)

You have a 1 GibiByte card. I will continue researching.

You either have a Rev 1 450 GTS

or Rev 2 450 GTS

There are stenciling Kits. And your sequence number resembles a rev 2 despite saying gf106 and not GF116. Let me peer at the bios number

If the Bios that came on the card worked, you should leave that on and change the Vram amount to the correct amount of 1GB by editing the Vbios.
Its a 450 gts for sure.

Try this bios

Get this tool and use it

Use this tool if the 1st 1 doesnt work

I went with the above bios because it is newer, and Also is from GALAX/GALAXY/KFA due to the style of heatsink.

So, yes, i was on vacations. Came back two days ago but havn't got time for this.

I just tried the Galaxy GTS 450 Bios @eideraman1 linked but like all the GTS 450 Bios i've tried before, it dosn't work. Here, it's white squares and lines just from booting.

I've flashed the BIOS with a CH341A because from my tests it's impossible to flash this card with any version of nvFlash.
So i've flashed the card back with her "original" Bios, checking it was working as it was when received and now i've to say:

Thank you all for your time and your help, but i've decided that too many of my time was wasted for this scam. My friend should have listen to me when i've told him not to buy this.
For now, i've managed to find him an old Asus GTX760 another friend had in stock. After a bit of Reflow it appears to work well during last week so everything end just good.

It was fun for me experimenting with GPU flashing but no more time to spend on this Chinese card who will be a piece of shit anyway.

Regards.

Regards.

Do us a favor and slap some sense into any friends that want to buy these generic looking cards. Stay away and go for reputable brands only.

Of course. Obviously i already know and tell friends (and cutomers) to buy only Asus, MSI, EVGA, Gygabyte,... products. Even if EVGA products are hard to find in France.

But in this case i ve sold my old config really cheap to my friend, but without graphic card. Because i'm not really playing anymore and my EVGA Gtx 1070ti was more than enough for my purposes (essentyally coding and web developpement) and so i kept it.

My friend was only playing old games and the mainboard i've sold him was just an Asus Crosshair V Formula with FX8350 (with a good BeQuiet Alim, SSD and HDDs, good Silverstone case and Zalman Ventirad for aproximatly 250 $). I initialy found him an Asus GTS 550ti for 40 $ But after for months of stupidly intense usage, he burned it. I tried to reflow it but it didn't works more than two days. So he tryed to buy another GPU on "leboncoin", kind of french ebay, but with the actual Graphic Cards worldwide penury, he didn't manage to. Then he told me he has found this incredible offer on amazon. Of course i told him this looks crapy and not to buy it. But after been frustrated buying a 4th graphic card that was in fact already sold, had to be refunded a forth time, he finally bought the fake 1050 ti, thinking he would at least be able to play a little. Error ^^

A lot of these Chinese cards are actually custom made and don't have a direct real equivalent. The one I had I had to modify the original bios bc the memory timings couldn't be found in any real bios. If you want to try it, I'll make a custom one from your original.

*edit*

Bored at work today, so here you go. Your original file was way too large. I'm not certain about the integrity of the file dump there, but it had 4 copies of the bios written within it. I've trimmed it down to one copy with 120k file size. The card has been set to identify as a 1GB GTS 450, with all other settings from your original bios's memory registers intact and a correct file checksum inserted at the end.

*edit 2*

If that previous one doesn't work, my GF106-250-KA-A1 had identical memory chips. Here's the custom BIOS I did to get it working.

I'll need a few more details on the card. What connectors did it have? Most of the fakes have 1x DVI 1x VGA 1x HDMI. The BIOS you posted seems to have 1x HDMI 2x DVI, is that correct? If so, it seems you've got an odd one. It would help to have pictures of the memory and GPU. Do you have a method to recover if we brick it while trying to flash?
