Making some progress isolating the problem
I sometimes wonder if W1zz updates the severs just so he has something to fix. I swear all the updates and upgrades I have noticed zero difference in the performance of the site.
Not that I don't appreciate everything W1zz does, I just wonder if "upgrading" the site and fixing issues is kinda like G-d striking a lighting bolt next to your house. Kinda a way to remind everyone who their internet G-d is.

I do love playing with servers
Server move made huge difference in page load times, browsing through review pages is nearly instant for me now, while before a delay was noticeable. Also the new servers will be crash proof (once working properly ^^)

As self appointed leader of something I approve the nuking of anything for fun.
I need to play some CIV and nuke someone.
I touch Civ, I disappear from the world for a week. Also nukes suck, bombers with +extra attack per turn, +heals each turn is where it's at
Just got "502 Bad Gateway" when trying "recent posts".
Had to reload page.
Worked on third try.
Doing some more testing
Final test: killing the main frontend server to see what happens .. should take 15 seconds to switch over to a backup and work fine. If not, see you in this thread in a few ^^
edit: failover took 20 seconds, but when the killed node came back up, some issues were encountered.. should be good now

Came back up now.
It is doing it again, now.
And, I cannot connect to NextpowerUp.
Tested other sites and they are OK.
NextPowerUp is slow to load, as of right now.
Last night i got a"Network Error (tcp_error) " once while trying to edit a PM and the main page sometimes doesn't load pictures unless i refresh a couple of times.
the latter could be from my crappy internet however everything looks fine now

They are by far underpowered for the game, and no more ICBM's with worldwide reach? The death robot and artillery are the best land based offensive.
land based offensive = fail, losses are way too high. air = win (because you can stack them). use bombers with self heal and 2 attacks per turn to weaken cities then use fast moving land units which ignore terrain to capture the city. if the AI decides to build (always too few) fighters, just shoot them down using your own fighters. helps if you steal the ai's oil so they can't build fighter planes, and your bombers can rain down doom on their cities and units
you want to power to radar first so you can build planes, then build a few of each and use them all the time so they level up. use levels to get +1 attack per turn first (so from now on it'll get 2x exp because it can attack twice), then focus on getting self heal upgrade. use these planes all the time so they keep on levelling while you progress through the game. make sure these veterans never ever die, if they get low on health, wait a turn or two with that unit. once you can build jet fighter/stealth bomber, upgrade your old planes which should have tons of exp now, and boom, game over. you can take 1-2 enemy cities per turn now, no matter how much defense they have

I enjoy the nuking part, making 10 nukes and awaiting the inevitable offensive AI player that starts crap and constantly parks units on your border, then you nuke their top three cities, and start to demolish their units.
I have never reached nukes without having some altercations with AI players, and you have to have land units to take their cities and take over their capitol.
Nukes are too expensive imo, air is much cheaper because you can reuse. Don't really need a lot of land units in end game as soon as you have strong air.
Only defense against stacked air units is nuke the city where they are stationed, so spread out your air units if you think the AI has nukes, always helps to dump $$ into another civ so they declare war and get nuked first =) Baiting the AI into nuking one of your cities where lots of newbie airplanes are stationed works well too, so the veteran planes dont get hit
Do you play offensive expansion or central? I explore enough to gauge where my main cities should go, then start hub and spoke building cities to close off land movement to other civs, run a tight scientific and cultural ship and amass enough money to buy units/property when the crap starts to head south.
thats pretty much what i do, but depends on your neighbours. playing immortal btw
