Can you tell us what you plan to play with said card? Otherwise, you'll be pretty limited with a 350w psu.

If you want some good perf/tdp, you can have a look at gud ol' 9600's/9800's Green editions and gt220's/240's. They usually come with a tdp of about ~50w or if you want cards from the red camp well a HD5670 could be ok + it comes with dx11.

The 8800GT in my for sale thread should fit the bill nicely... low power consumption best bang-for-the bucks for lower power machines. the 256mb matches your resolution... and the 512mb would be best if you want to upgrade screen resolution later on.

Benchmark Scores 2cm mark on bench with a razor blade.
An example of how the 8500GT runs, I played DiRT 2 on a rig very similar to your is the way of specs.
Although it has a 600w PSU, I needed to have many of the settings on low and at a resolution of 640x whatever the height is, but it was pretty much like playing in PS2 graphics.

So with the 8500GT expect current games to be played a low settings.

In your situation, upgrading the PSU and purchasing a GPU will be most beneficial.

All depends on how much you have to spend and where sticking to one card manufacturer is important to you or bang for buck.

GT430 is better. They both have the same number of CUDA cores but the 430 is clocked higher. Be careful if you start looking at overclocked versions as the power requirements may climb along with clock speed and they'll likely have dual slot coolers attached so space may become a consideration.

The one he's selling isn't. I don't know if anyone makes an 8800GT in low profile.

GT 240 and 430 don't require additional power.

your best bet 430 :) its high profile :) most 430

well 240 as well, but i woud go the newer card

9800GT low power or Green Edition does not have a PCIe power connector. Its wattage is less than 75W, thus would draw no more than 6 amps on +12V rail.

Get one of the "older" 2xx or 8xxx or 9xxx ones, they offer good bang for buck compared to the "newer ones"

A stock GTS 450 should be fine; it uses a 6 pin connector which your PSU has and will give you a big boost in games.

Was just about to suggest exactly this. A GTS450 should work nicely.

Just as a comparison, I'm running folding@home on an overclocked 8800GT (700/1782/950 core/shader/mem) 24/7 with a P4 Dell system that has a 350W supply. It handles it like a champ. It doesn't run any other program though so the cpu sits almost idle all the time.

Edit: And the 8800/9800GT has 112 shaders so it should be able to beat out the GTS 430 but won't have DX11.

You think he'll be running furmark a lot? I don't. So the power consumption is more like 104w, and more like 94w for a stock card.

hey i was just saying...plus we dont know how old this PSU is it may decay down alot seeing how its 80+ and has HFC i would say its not one of the old old cheapy FSP but cant ever be to sure

That is true. So my suggestion is a GTS450, and don't run furmark.

FSP power supply is good, but i wont risk it thets sure. :)

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTS 450

* On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit.

well PSU calculator here; http://www.antec.outervision.com/PSUEngine

i put your sys + 2x 80mm fun= 329w YOU DICADE

500w...are they insane? My main rig with a GTX470 barely breaks 550w pulled from the wall with the CPU maxed out and furmark running...

A 500w recommendation for the GTS450 is extremely laughable.

And the Antec calculator is always way high, because they want you to buy more expensive power supplies then you really need.
