That is true. So my suggestion is a GTS450, and don't run furmark.

500w...are they insane? My main rig with a GTX470 barely breaks 550w pulled from the wall with the CPU maxed out and furmark running...

A 500w recommendation for the GTS450 is extremely laughable.

And the Antec calculator is always way high, because they want you to buy more expensive power supplies then you really need.

I wont agree with them, but i think they play on the safe side as me...

I do not want the OP come beck week later throwing stone at as... lol

I agree with you do, but deff aganst to higher then 9800/240/430! :)

go run that calculator on this

phenom 1090T@4.5ghz 1.55v
2x2GB DDR3
SSD+HDD+ODD
2x4850X2 2GB (highest single slot power consumption cards out ever period end of story)

2 watercooling pumps (laing D4+D5 vario)

last time i tried one it said 1200w ran that setup for a bit on a Thermaltake TR2 850w it never skipped a beat or got warm so yea...

The GTS450 only consumes 6w more than the 9800GT, you think 6w will make or break the PSU...

sounds like gt 430 is the best choice

I wouldn't even waste my time or money on a GT430 if you plan to play games. Yes, it consumes less power, but it also performs like completely garbage. You're looking at sub-10FPS in crysis at anything above 1024x768, and even at 1024x768 you'll be getting under 25FPS.

i still stand for 9800 eco/ 240/ 430

To be fair to him, he corrected himself afterwards since the 9800gt Green Edition sucks 75w compared to the 9800gt which is more or less ~125w! :)

The 9800eco cards still pull 80w+. Don't be fooled by the lack of a PCI-E power connector, they over-draw power from the PCI-E slot to make up for the lack of a PCI-E power connector.

A stock GTS 450 should be fine; it uses a 6 pin connector which your PSU has and will give you a big boost in games.

350W PSU. nVidia recommends 400W.

You think he'll be running furmark a lot? I don't. So the power consumption is more like 104w, and more like 94w for a stock card.

Going by the "maximum" power numbers don't make much sense for normal usage scenarios.

It does make sense because once in a while he may run something that actually does push it up to the maximum and then he'll run into a problem. If the PSU overloads it can take out a lot of sensitive parts before it shuts down. You should ALWAYS take the maximum power draw of all parts into consideration when choosing a PSU not the minimum. All the parts collectively might have a minimum power draw of exactly 350W, but as soon as any one part starts to demand more the PSU can no longer deliver because you didn't leave any headroom to allow for peaks in demand. Power demand can fluctuate considerably even under what we perceive as light use. The parts inside the computer may actually be working harder than you think. You also leave no room for the slow failure of parts that always takes place inside every PSU lowering it's efficiency over time. A 350W PSU that is several years old may not be delivering 350W anymore.

Actually it recommends a 400w, it is saying the minimum is ~300w. Your PSU meets the minimum as you have 23A on the 12v rail.

And the recommendations are always high to cover people that run insane systems so the PSU doesn't blow up. Your system will be fine.

350W PSU. nVidia recommends 400W.

It does make sense because once in a while he may run something that actually does push it up to the maximum and then he'll run into a problem. Even pushing it to the max his PSU will handle it. But again, just don't run furmark and he will definitely be fine. I have yet to see anything that pushes a card as much as furmark, it just doesn't happen. So going by the absolute maximum in a normal situation doesn't make any sense. Just because I'm not looking at the absolute maximum doesn't mean I'm taking the minimum either. I'm taking the maximum use under normal usage condition.

His PSU will handle a GTS450 without problem. In fact it will handle it and leave 150w+ left for the rest of the system, which the rest of the system will never consume.

For whatever reason the OP wants a card which plays games the way it's meant to be played ;)
Or maybe he has knowledgeable buddies who recommended he only use nVidia who knows.

His choice.
