Hey, guys.
My PNY GTX 760 was recognized as Tesla K10. I have been tryed a lot of tips of this forum and all over the web. But the problem persists.
If i install any driver from NVidia, my PC recognize as Tesla
Already installed a clean install of Windows 7/8/8.1/10 and same problem
Tested a 9800GT from my friend and my PCIe recognizes fine, installed the drivers and all worked fine with 9800
Already removed all drivers with DDU in safe and normal mode and reinstalled all again
Already reseted my mobo BIOS

Now, i`m trying to reset/install a new bios from GPU. But the nvflash show me the follow error (i`m using the only bios from my card that i found here on TechPowerUP)

Someone here can help me?
I live in a shitty place, that an GTX760 costs like 3x more than in USA. I just can`t afford with a new GPU.

Sounds like you have been sold a fake graphics card. Where did you get it from?

Probably not, man. I bought this card on Walmart.
The GPU worked fine for at least 18 months. Just started to get this kind of error few days ago.

118f is indeed tesla k10, and 1187 is gtx 760.

could you post a photo of the card?
do you have a backup of the original bios the card came with? please email it to me, w1zzard@techpowerup.com

hmm those photos definitely look like the right card, and the PCB color matches too (K10 has green PCB).

thanks for the bios. it does have the K10 device id indeed, but the rest looks normal. Maybe a previous owner has tried to modify the card to K10 via BIOS flash and then returned it.

You can try overriding the NVFlash warning with -5 -6 -7 command line parameter.

W1zzard, thanks for the reply.
I tried to run with -5 -6 -7, but NVflash does not recognized the parameters

Code:
C:\nvflash>nvflash PNY.rom -5 -6 -7

NVIDIA Firmware Update Utility (Version 5.206)
Simplified Version For OEM Only

Save firmware to file: nvflash [options] --save <filename>
Display version: nvflash [options] --version [<filename>]
Check for supported EEPROM: nvflash [options] --check
List adapters:              nvflash [options] --list
Write protect EEPROM: nvflash [options] --protecton
Remove write protect: nvflash [options] --protectoff
Press 'Enter' to continue, or 'Q' to quit.

C:\nvflash>

I`m using the last nvflash version, downloaded from here.
I'm doing anything wrong?

Thanks, these were important details needed for a fuller picture of what is going on.

It sounds like the card has become faulty. Graphics cards never change their identity unless something goes wrong with them or the bios is flashed.

The fact that w1zz can see the K10 ID suggests that the card has been tampered with recently. Could someone have flashed the bios behind your back, perhaps? Someone like a family member or flatmate, maybe?

No, friend. I`m the only person who use this computer.

Some things that could be the cause of problem:
  • I installed the pre build of Windows 10 with DX12. But when i decided to downgrade back to W8.1 i needed to reset my bios by the jumper.
  • I remember that when i installed a clean installation of W10, my EVGA Precision X started to point a message that my Graphic Card cant be recognized by system. So i tried to install AfterBurner, same problem. He couldn't recognize my graphic card.
  • Recently, i changed my PSU Strike X 500w for an EVGA 750B 750w modular. But i tested all the modular cables with my Thermaltake Dr. Power and its all okay.

Thats all i can think that can be the cause.
I never changed or edited any parameter of the bios. This is the first time i`m having contact with GPU BIOS.

No, nothing you describe there could cause it to change its identity, so I don't know why it's doing this. I don't quite understand: you changed which bios with a jumper?

Installing a clean Win 7 should definitely recognize the card correctly, especially once you've installed the nvidia drivers rather than used the ones that come with Windows.

From what w1zz said, I can only think that the bios got programmed somehow without your knowledge.

Other than the card not being identified correctly, does it work properly? If your games run ok then I suggest perhaps putting it down to some gremlin and either live with it or get another one if it really bothers you. Is it still under warranty? Some have a two year warranty and yours is 1.5 years old.

I`m thinking that it`s a hardware problem. Cause the softwares that read the BIOS, show the right hardware ID. But the ones who read directly the hardware, show the wrong ID.
See on my picture annexed on original post.
I`m talking shit or it`s realy happen?
Any of your guys know why my NVFlash does not recognizes the -7 -6 -5 parameters?

Also, i have testes this card on my office PC yesterday.
Installed the GPU, installed the drivers and has been recognized as Tesla too.

Im thinking that my GPU was died. :(

You could try this, but i can't guarantee you that it will work:

nvflash -p -u -2 ROM NAME.rom

Nvflash -e

then DO NOT REBOOT but then enter the command...

nvflash -p -u -f ROM NAME.rom

But be sure to backup, u could use this command, even u properly know it:

nvflash -b backup.rom

If the GPU works but is called a K10 then it still works. Also, I think if you contact PNY they will help. Most of their cards come with a 3 year warrenty.

Man, my version of nvflash does not recognizes these commands. I can`t understand.
Can you upload the version that are using?

If the GPU works but is called a K10 then it still works. Also, I think if you contact PNY they will help. Most of their cards come with a 3 year warrenty.

But the GPU isn't working for games. I think that's why the driver installed is for an server GPU and not for games GPU
(the K10 driver is the same of the GTX760. At least i have downloaded the right one for GTX760 and its installed as an K10)

Sorry if my english is soo poor. I hope you guys can understand me.
You're awesome. :3

Okay, after a lot os time, i can change the bios. Now i have installed the BIOS founded here on TPU: 80.04.BF.00.01
But my card still being recognized as Tesla K10.
Also, i only get it using a older version of nvcard 5.142.
Well... now i`m really fucked, right?

Also, i can`t send my GPU to PNY RMA, cause don't worth the shippment prices. I`m from Brazil, and the taxes is so damn high (fuck it shitty country).

EDIT----------------------------------

I was seeing this post
http://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/hacking-nvidia-cards-into-their-professional-counterparts/
This guy said the follow:
5K = 8
10K = 9
15K = A
20K = B
25K = C
30K = D
35K = E
40K = F

When pulling low I expect this to be the same, but for 7 - 0, but I did not test this as the device ID I was targeting is >= 8.

There are two tiny SMD resistors on the board, one for each nibble of the PCI Device ID byte. Originally the GTX 690 has a device id of 0x1188, so to become a Quadro K5000 this has to be changed to 0x11BA, which equates to 20K and 15K resistors. If you wanted to change it to a Tesla K10, you would want to change it to 0x118F, which equates to 5K and 40K resistors.

This will only change the rear GPU on the GTX 690, I am yet to identify the resistors to change for the front one. I would also wager a bet that the new NVidia Titan can be upgraded into the Tesla K20 using the same method.

Probably, my GPU was burned this resistor that inform the Hardware ID, making the GPU being recognized as Tesla K10.
There is anyway that i can fix that?
I see a lot of foruns and posts of people that want to transform a GTX680/760 into QUADRO and TESLA and all i want IS TO COME BACK MY DEAR 760. ;-;

Try to clean thoroughly your card's PCB.Just a wild guess,Nvidia has hardware "straps" for not making possible to convert their Geforce products in professional(quadro,tesla) via bios flash.Those straps are tiny resistors.Maybe dust or something is causing them to short?!?

I've edited out the bake part,it is basically heat soldering tiny joints on PCB,but you have to be extremely cautious beause you can "overdo" the meal.But like i said thats just a wild guess.maybe you will do more harm if you bake the card.Guides on the net.Do it at your own risk.Don't hold me responsible!
