politics section in forums

Due to the size and content of the "who'll be the better president" thread, I suggest a separate sub-forum for "Politics".

ALOT of issues have been dicussed in that thread, some of which do not pertain specifically to the candidates.

It would be easier for users to read and possibly easier to moderate if topics were organized under a Politics sub-forum.

Since this site is non partisan, it's a great place to openly discuss issues.

I'm not sure if "sub-forum" is the right word, but I think you get my drift.

Thoughts?

NASIOC has a politics section which I wasted quite a bit of time in. I found the debate here much more tolerable since there is a more international crowd.

yeah Scrizz I understand your sentiment, I think the OP's intention was that for people like yourself, you need never visit such said sub forum.

Personally I think as a tech site, it should stick to that. Inadverntantly our own views on politics and international events will come out but I don't think this should be a focus for the site, even in a sub forum.

No. This is a hardware and gaming website. While we are glad you enjoy the politics thread(s), that is not the primary focus of this website and a handful of threads are more than sufficient. There are plenty of other websites whose focus is the discussion of politics.

its a good idea. lots of sites, general interest and otherwise, have Politics / News forums. and the discussion is kept fairly straight, if not without humor and levity. anything political whether it be matters of country, state, law, controversial topoics, etc....can be discussed there. usually only takes one mod, roo. because its fairly obvious what goes and what doesn't

no one will post in there unless they are interested, so no one else really needs to be concerned with whether TPU has a Politics / News forum or not

i'm just sayin' its a fairly ordinary forum for boards such as this one to have

No this is a computer hardware and gaming website. We do not need a politics sub-forum. With the addition of more and more sub-forums it not only makes the forum lose its focus but also makes it more difficult to navigate.

well the "General Nonsense" forum seemed to be less so when i visited, thats all. politics is spilling over into it, whether its there for politics or not. maybe its just the season (political one) but it was sort of unnerving when my innocent little "President Obama Is Giving Me A $100 Tax Break" thread seemed to be takin' seriously by many. heck i even posted items i was going to purchase! some posters were like "well son he isn't President, yet." others were like "you'll be lucky if you ever see it"

then it just got serious

i thought that forum was for "general nonsense"

to me that says "lighthearted" and fun. thats why i posted products i would buy with my tax break. i was waiting for teh funny. the funny never came

so, its obvious some users here are interested in politics. so a forum to keep them posting HERE...where they can post about politics with other interested board members, would seem to make some sense. it is a rather large board

however, i do see how it is a completely tech oriented board. except for general nonsense. so...perhaps i just find that name misleading, "nonsense." Maybe "General Discussion" would be a better name? although sub forums for that could happen. politics being one of them

Dislike this idea, it falls under general chit chat and was fun to take part in and I learned a lot about the American system. It should not have it's own part as it'll become hard to manage with a staff that already has a million and one jobs to do.

This is a technology forum/site and to make it better and get better recognition it does not need to be dragged down by squabbles in a thread that doesn't really belong within it.
