I have been an ATI fan since I had my 8Mb Rage pro Turbo (still works. The computer it's in is running as I type this). I've used several Nvidia cards too, and they've been great. If I had to choose between an ATI and Nvidia card that were 100% equal then I would choose the ATI card out of nostalgia.

I bought a Abit x800 Pro off ebay a year ago when they where going for alot more at the stores. Ive had nothing but great luck with it. Even I after I flashed it to a XT.
With ATI tool, Ive gotten it to 600mhz, and benchmarked 5900 in 3DMark 2005, with an AGP board.

I bought my younger friends in my clan one too!

Never :p

Also, I voted nVidia due to having them and sticking with them so far, all done me proud :)

First Card: 128Mb nVidia MX 440;
Second Card: 128Mb nVidia FX 5200;
Third Card: 128Mb nVidia FX 5500;
Fourth Card: 256Mb XFX nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra.

Can't remember the make's of the 1'st through 3'rd cards as it's been a while =)

1'st card is now on stand-by for testing if any cards go funny, which they haven't, the 2'nd card is in my little brothers computer and the 3'rd in my mum and step-dads computer.

if every1 bought ati... the prices would go down real fast and the x1900xtx will be replaced with a new model because ati would have so much money (dreaming) the x1900xtx at 160$ with toxic water cooling (fantasizing) :laugh:

I currently use an ATI X800 Pro, but I'm not a fanboy. My last computer used a Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4200. My first card was a VooDoo 3 3000.

Check this out man: Every now and then ATI drivers get enhanced, specially performance. Once there was the Advanced AA modes for all Direct X9 ATI cards that got enabled, another time they got openGL games like DOOM3 to get much improved performance on X1x00 cards, then they added smooth vision, hydravision, blabla.... Every month they fix issues with games that Nvidia takes months to fix, sometimes never fixed. Nvidia cards for a LONG time had the shimmering problem. For 2 years Nvidia cards can not DO HDR and AA modes at once, and they don't care to resolve. Nvidia users don't have the support that ATI users have, period!

Don't get me wrong, I once had an Nvidia card: Geforce 200MX.... Was good, then I switched to Radeon 8500 instead of the more expensive Geforce 3. Since then, I can tell you ATI drivers have got extreme makeover.

Can't argue with that but the drivers is only part 1 of the story, my last paragraph is the 2nd, ATI just seem more recently to be starting to price themselves out of contention, apart from the driver support and the AA/HDR issue I dont think that anyone could argue that NVidia's pricing strategy with the 7900GT was just about spot on! I mean, a newer generation card that outperformes an older generation x1800xt (in most but not all I admit, but across benchmarkes the 7900 wins) for less in price, well at the time I bought in the UK I paid less than the x1800xt.

No! if everyone bought ATI I could have got my 7900GT for half the price because more importantly, NVidia prices would plummet.

No, ATI would raise their prices until people stopped buying lol...it's called a "monopoly". And like Tatty_One said, Nvidia cards would go down to make up for the lost business.

I run the X850XT In my rig and a 6200 128mb Nvidia In the Wifes/Daughters rig.

I prefer ATI.

I did Luv the heck outta my Voodoo 5500 though.....right up Until Nvidia bought them out and shelved all support.Kinda soured me against Nvidia...but they do make a decent product.

Nope traditionally ati does have better image quality thats why geforce has digital vibrance control and ati doesn't because ati's is on all the time and geforce lowers theirs for better performance. I did looks at the 7900gt and its a very good card but its currently 20 to 50 dollars more than a x1800xt and as I said its image quality is slightly lower. I also like the 7600gt because its almost as fast as a x850xt but it has shader 3 tech. However it only has a 128 bit bus and the x850 has a 256 bus. I love both companies I might have bought a 7900 gt or even a 7800gt but they are more expensive than ati cards and are slightly less powerful except the 6800 ultra for agp but its 300 dollars, why would I buy a 300 dollar apg card from geforce when I can buy numerous ati cards for less. Also the x1800xt overclocks better than the 7900gt. Even The x1900xt as a single card gives the new 7950 a run for its money, and its about a hundred and fifty dollars more expensive than the x1900xt. I would love to buy a Geforce card and if they would under cutt atis prices they would be the best value for the buck. I once owned a 6600gt and it was and still might be the best video card sold value per-performance. I even bought two 5900 series cards a 5900xt and 5900 ultra knowing the 9800xts killed them because I was loyal to geforce. Now that was plain stupid. The 7600gts should be around 100 dollars and they would sell like hot cakes beating the x1800gto and all the x800 cards for price per-performance. However they are around 160.00 to 180.00 without rebates. This is just stupid on geforces side. When you can buy cards like a HIS x850xt with a factory silencer on it for 129.00. Invidia reminds me of GMC and Chev trying to over price cars based on loyalty. I wanted to buy geforce but for now im a true Ati guy. Just like I drive a Toyota not GMC due to price

The image quality thing can be debated...Nvidia has graphics that are more beautiful, ATI has graphics that are more realistic. It's a personal preference, realism or fantasy. I choose realism :).

Ok some good and valid points there, most of which I Can't argue with, my last card up until a month ago was actually the HIS 850xt ICEQ II and it was fantastic, no buts, however:

You keep mentioning the prices, I bought my 7900GT a month ago albeit in the UK and I could not get an 1800XT as cheaply....fact! as I said in a previous post, why would I have wanted to anyway, i get a latest gen card, faster (across the board, not in all tests though) and more cheaply, yes it has its weak points and so does ATI...like the x1800xt in the UK is overpriced, not Vice versa as you are quoting.

Lastly, You quote the x1800xt well in fact ATI as being the better clockers, OK lets forget for a minute after market coolers and the HIS versions with the Silencer 5 and look at the "stock" cooler versions.......can you find one that will take the memory up 480-500Mhz on a farty little fan like the stock 7900GT has got, TBH the fan on my GT is a joke and my stock Memory is 1320 and I can run her at 1800, I have been too scared to take her past that but I am sure she will go, just think with an after market what she might acheive, OK the core overclcok is pretty decent on this farty heatsink as in stock 450 and will go to 585-600 but all in all, there aint many cards out there on stock farts that will beat that memory overclock, my HIS 850 just went from 1080 to 1300 with the silencer!...not as good and the core from 520 - 610 on the silencer, again not as good and the 850's are known for their overclock potential so I think historically you are right perhaps about ATI overclocking better but NVidia are certainly giving them a run for their money now, especially with the G71 core.

The image quality thing can be debated...Nvidia has graphics that are more beautiful, ATI has graphics that are more realistic. It's a personal preference, realism or fantasy. I choose realism :).

idk dude i like realism i love it but gimme pretty shades of neon purple blue or green anyday.

You know Nvidia, and I'll agree with you, have an excellent price/performance/generation policy. ATI is slowly catching up on that with their own GT GTO GTO2 and XL models. Thoe what I won't agree in some way is that Nvidia is going forward in technology since the 6800GTX. I haven't seen ANY new features in an Nvidia card since the 6800 series, and that includes the 7900GTX. The only improvements I seen are performance offering improvements, but no extra features.

ATI really changed when they switched from the X8x0 series up to X1x00 series as they created the ring bus, added PS and VS 3.0, up to the newer generation X1900 cards which is a world apart in graphics pipeline management compared to X1800 models.

Nvidia is really good for raw pixel power, always been. Thoe when you add all those quality ANISO and AA modes up, ATI is leading in performance and surpasses in image quality. All latest graphics card should run games with those modes enabled as they are powerful enough, and in such case ATI is a better choice IMHO. Thoe raw power of the HDR mode, the crown goes to nvidia. Yet HDR + AA = NO NO for Nvidia, so ATI takes crown back.

I currently do no thave HDR capability, an neither do I have PS VS 3.0, and I congratulate Nvidia to come first with those capabilities with the 6800GT GTX models. Hats off to them. But since then, really I think it's a waiting game. ATI really pushed the envelope on their side.

Quad SLI is a joke and the drivers suck serious ass. If it ever works it will be hopelessly bottlenecked, plus it is a huge waste of money considering they are only DX9 cards. One of them is good for a non SLI motherboard.
