Sure, why not? They are usually "neck & neck" thru the years now...

* Typically, I've noted that in OpenGL? Nvidia does better... & on the reverse/converse, DirectX?? ATI does better!

(Though from what I have seen, this x1900 stuff (whatever ATI's "top-end" is nowadays) kicks butt on BOTH though, & is right there with NVidia!)

I had a ati x800gto2 and that oced very well but I got a nvidia 7900gt now and is only so so imho.

ATI makes good cards, however the drivers are resource HOGS. I'm switching to the green camp when I need a new card. I mean, you won't notice the difference when you have like 8GB of RAM, but not everyone has that much RAM to spare. Nvidia's drivers barely take up 80MB of RAM, while ATI's drivers take up...200? Or at least that's how it is on my systems.

well ive had 3 ati cards and 3 nvid cards.

my mx200 died, and my fx5200 died. the mx440 still runs
i killed by shorting out my old 9600pro. it still runs just one mem chip is dead.

the nvid cards were just pisspoor engineered and performed the same. i dont own any current or even last gen cards so what i say must be taken with a grain of salt.

ATI here. When I lived with my cousins in Cali, they had an FX5200 and FX5600, I though it was poor.

How do you mean "only so so"??? as in overclocking abilities? ohhh and the Green here but had the red last card and only just changed, I will move with what I think is performance/Bang for Buck so have no particular loyalty.

Well lets see. a 9600 vanilla, a 9800 vanilla, 2 9800 Pro's, a X800GTO Fireblade, and a X850XT (all Sapphire), I would have to say I prefer Red over Green. :cool:

I have had 4 Green cards though. None as good as the 9600 vanilla though.

4) AI performance mode

7) HDR + AA modes all at once, and ANISO + MIP MAP + AI + .... :pimp:

8) Drivers updated each month + release notes :toast:

9) SUPPORT :respect:

True, ATI DOES take good care of it's customers...but Nvidia has all sorts of pretties even without AA/AF

. Personally, I think both are very good, but Nvidia drivers aren't extreme hogs. I've said it once and I'll say it again, in a year it'll be Vista+ATI vs. Cedega + Linux + Nvidia. Who's side are you on?

Reasons to go Nvidia-
1- Drivers may not be updated as frequently, but seriously, the ones out there work fine.
2- ALOT more stuff to tweak then an ATI card.
3- Basic image quality is better (but lacks the realism of an ATI card.).
4- SM3 on a $40 card

.
5- Nvidia may put monster coolers on its high-end cards, but at least those monster coolers are quiet, and don't need fan tweaks to be quiet.
6- An extremely easy multi-GPU solution.
7- Cards don't require an uber-PSU to run, don't need 5lbs of copper to keep them cool, and don't come in just red.
8- While we may not post really long threads about this, Geforce cards are just as unlockable, overclockable, and moddable as their ATI counterparts.
9- Nvidia has a really easy to use settings tweaker that comes with the drivers, instead of ATI's Catalyst Control Center, which takes forever to load and only hurts performance.
10- Nvidia cards come with pictures of pretty girls painted on the heatsinks (usually)

well idk what you guys are talkig about but my ati drivers only use about 15mb..oh maby its due to the fact that i know how to disable the services from running...

ps why excatly would u want sm3 at 1fps on a $40 card?

LOL okay you got me there, maybe it's AOL causing the 300MB RAM usage on system startup. And the 6200 runs the games I play quite nicely (Halo, UT, UT2004, etc.). It ran perfectly with Darth Flatulence until I decided to do a stupid hardware mod that didn't quite work out (shorted out a transistor
