stay with the 580 right now and get another one when needed, and I'd go with 2 570's over the 6950's, better performer and overclocks better, (im currently running two gainward phantom 570's, never breaks 70 degrees and overclocked to 860/4200, didn't even tweaked voltages yet, and I cant hear them over my slient case fans, (cept when running furmark, which these cards breaks 80 degrees and the fans are much lounder))
Have been running two 5850's for a year, and a 4870x2 for 2 weeks, I'd say stick with nvidia if you can. Driver supports are waaaay user friendlier.

I think crossfire 6950 @ 6970 would beat a single 580 pretty hard.

Definitely stick with your GTX 580 man, It maxes out all games @ 1080p anyways, and when more demanding DX11 titles come out(BF3):D, pop in another one:toast:

If the ques was but a 580 or 2 6950's I'de say 6950s.
You have a 580 tho, so stick w/ that and pop in another when battlefield 3 comes out(hopefully they won't still be over $500 then). Maybe put two more in for 3 way sli if they're cheap enough. 3 way 580 sli seems to be the most powerful setup you can currently have.

If you already have the 580 gtx, just stay with it. I just sold my pair of 6950's and it was because of screen flickering issue and incompatibility of the latest catalyst and msi afterburner (from my personal experience). Frame rate was very good with the 6950's and I play at 2560x1600. If you want bang for the buck then it's obviously 6950's.

Stick with the 580 and buy another when the price drops, IF you are going to upgrade your monitor to a 30" or go dual or triple screens.

Yes, I think I use the lower details better than spending the money for upgrading until Kepler Architecture coming or until next year !

Definitely stay on the green side. Even if tempting some red things are better left untouched
