Portal with RTX

Hi,
Portal 2 looked interesting this one not so much.

Is it really a 10 year old game with new models and textures? Is it? Its a remake. The smart people said it has to do with the number of rays. Either way, its a monumental improvement...imo.
Supposedly other games with that engine are getting updated assets as well. Eg. Half life 2.
Update via mods*

Hey @Assimilator don't laugh! Even though it's 8x I get ~30fps on 1440p :p PCI-Express bandwidth doesn't seem to be deal breaker here (or anywhere really, that's why I traded it for NVMe).

In case you missed this:

The fact that modders can replace textures and assets easily, compared to the long and tedious process that this activity normally require, is a blast. For me this is the real killer feature for this modding tool.
Looking at the new assets and textures in Portal RTX, the final result looks impressive.
I'm not a fun of the game, but I'm sure that the modding community will make good use of this software.
I'm not sure what games can actually be modified with this, but Portal runs on the Source engine and this is used for many awesome games. Left 4 Dead and Insurgency 2014 comes to mind.

I would not have a problem with this if it would not be used by some people to justify buying the most expensive shit and then absolutely feeling the need to enlighten the masses of their "wise" choices
Its kinda impressive how the game changed, but I am not sure about the new art style, and that seems to become a recurring theme, instead of focusing on what makes a game great, the focus now slowly shifts to making them shinier.

Mate, you're about two decades late in complaining how graphics became more important than gameplay. :)
But, lucky for us, there are game developers that still mix well the two elements. Maybe this is one of the reasons why Valve is taking so long to release the sequels of their best games: they need to come with graphics that is great and smooth as the gameplay.
By the way, Portal changed for the better and I'd love to see L4D with that lightning. But that is the look that the people who created the RTX mod decided to give to the game. I can imagine that the people that will modify other games will make their choices, deciding to stay close to the original or take another path.
As for buying expensive shit to play with this, it's what I'm planning to do this new year. :)

Love it max out, at first just checking it out, end up playing too many hours, my 4090 gets a work out for sure, it's very smooth and 70 to high 90 fps .

It can't even run at 4K@30fps on a GPU that costs 2000 USD.
Exactly my point.

We will get there, eventually, but until then, useless gimmick.
