Hi, i have a mother B150m d3h, i5 6500 and GTX 1080 with 16GB 2133Mhz, a Seasonic 520 and a monitor 144hz 1440p Gsync.

I play multiplayer games like PUBG, overwatch and single player games. I want to upgrade my rig to get more FPS because right now i have to play some games in medium or high to get 100fps stable for example, or in Pubg i have a few stutters even with gsync on because sometimes my FPS are in 80 and drop to 65 for example. I think in a 8600k with New mother and New fastest rams, what do u think? Is worth the upgrade?

PUBG isn't even fully optimised from what i remember correctly? Upgrading CPU you probably see 2-5fps increase if you're not experiencing any bottlenecks with your i5 6500.

Yes, is bad optimised... But how can i see if the CPU is bottleneck? I mean, is a I5 6500, i think that can be the problem for 90fps or more, if i play at 60 hz the Cpu is fine. I know that in 1440p the gpu works more than cpu, but if i want 100fps or more to make gsync get sense and play smotther, then the cpu is not the problem?

if you're not experiencing any bottlenecks with your i5 6500.
I think his CPU might run at 100% load when playing games at high fps, I have the same CPU with a 1440p G-Sync monitor.
At least with my slightly modded GTA V I know my CPU is a bottleneck , which could as well be the same for the games OP is playing.
OP is probably running CPU intensive games which becomes a bottleneck for the i5 6500 at high fps.
I can run GTA V sunny weather at a locked 65fps and 75fps during rain in the game, if I run at higher fps I get stutters even though I have a G-Sync monitor.

@ OP, cheapest upgrade is a i7 6700K.

Yup, i think the same. If i play at 70fps all is smooth, but if i want more fps the stutters appears because the fps fluctuations is bigger...

So i think that is cpu bottleneck, so is not worth upgrade the gpu because i dont think that is the problem, and if i go for a 1080ti the cpu bottleneck more and more...

The 6700k is a good choice but have less threads and less clocks...

The 6700k is a good choice but have less threads and less clocks...
i5 6500 is a quad core CPU with 4 threads.
i7 6700K is a quad core with hyper threading, 8 threads + higher clock speeds.

By Intel Specification the i5 6500 is 4 core and 4 Threads with 3.2ghz-3.6ghz
i7 6700k 4 core and 8 threads with 4.00ghz-4.20ghz

P4 beat me to it.

With my 4790k and gtx 1089 i get around 80-90fps, maybe 100 on medium at 1600p. Good luck with 144hz and textures at the same time. I Would just upgrade to like a 6700k if you needed more threads, not a whole new chipset especially while it's so damned expensive. My bet is black friday will feature a huge sell off of 6700k chips.

8600k has 6 threads while the 6700k has 8 threads. As I said I'd probably wait till like black friday or cyber Monday and buy one on newest when they're heavily discounted as they want to get rid of old inventory.

6700k is 4/8, 8600k is 6/6, the games use more real threads than HT no?

The 6700k is 310usd, the 7700k same price... I have to change mother and ram in the two scenarios , so is not better 7700k than 6700k?i know than 7700k have very high temps but i dont want a super ocing, i think at 4.5ghz my system dont bottleneck

I think you would get better performance with a GTX 1080 Ti upgrade than an upgrade to 8600k. at most you'll get single digit FPS performance increase in most games if you upgrade to a 8600k (except especially in very cpu intensive games like Arma, Ashes of Singularity, etc.) but with a GTX 1080Ti, you can get more FPS out of that cpu, I don't think it's a bottleneck yet. unless@4k

Single player games will generally run better and get more boosts than multiplayer games.

PUBG is still unoptimized so at past i5/1070 levels it isn't going to make much difference esp at lower resolutions. I have a friend with 7th gen non-k i7 with gtx 1080 and i have a 2600k 4.5GHz with gtx 1070 and we roughly have the same performance. we both have 1080p 144hz monitors.

Overwatch can run decently though, even with a low end build, so you don't need to upgrade for that.

Anyway, are you maxing out everything? or want to? just a suggestion, maxing out isn't always the best thing to do, there are many graphical options that you can lower or turn off without losing any noticable visual fidelity but gaining 10+ or more FPS. I suggest tinkering around with the settings, especially that you have a 144hz monitor. 144FPS is hard to achieve with maxed out settings, so you really have to compromise on something, either that or play in 60FPS locked but with maxed graphics.

in PUBG for example, setting shadows to low is around +20 FPS compared to ultra, but it doesn't actually look bad(I use low), this is even with the new recent updates

But i dont know if is better upgrade the cpu, mobo, ram or upgrade the VGA only... Hard choice

6700k because you can resell your i5 and not have to change out motherboards. 8600k ain't worth an extra like 150 usd.

step 1: sell your i5, get the most possible of it!

Step 2: get 1151 i7, 6700K or 7700K diference will less than 5% performance loss or gain, so avoid drama, get the cheapest one online,

Step 3: consider better cooling for a i7, since the have 4T moar heat is something to mind, hihgly recomended, 120mAIO water cooler,

Step 4: listen advises, sometimes you just have to say thanks,

Thanks haha, so i am wrong to go for a 8600k + z370? I mean for temps, i am worried for temps of 7700k and noise of cooler...

And if i go for a 7700k with a z270 i cant upgrade it, if i go for 8600k i can upgrade to 8700k but is not neccesary really.. So if go for 7700k and ocing to 4.8ghz for example i need a 280 AIO or with a 120 AIO i am good? And with my Seasonic 520 i can handle the 7700k oced?

Thanks haha, so i am wrong to go for a 8600k + z370? I mean for temps, i am worried for temps of 7700k and noise of cooler...
Way so much, i7s naturally produce moar heat, more T's and higher clock speeds, but nothing to worry, a decent AIO water cooler will be enough to solve that issue,

And if i go for a 7700k with a z270 i cant upgrade it, if i go for 8600k i can upgrade to 8700k but is not neccesary really.. So if go for 7700k and ocing to 4.8ghz for example i need a 280 AIO or with a 120 AIO i am good? And with my Seasonic 520 i can handle the 7700k oced?
were did you take those numbers...? or what about your aims?
a 7700K or also 6700K will be moar than enough for gaming and heavy tasking, so if i were you will stay with 1151 i7 and the current hardware you still have, no need to broke your mind and wallet.... just forget 8600K or 8700K ....

Thanks, i am reading more and more. I will go for 7700k and with my mobo, is the Best option.. But in a future i will buy a z270 to ocing the 7700k. So what is the Best AIO thinking in the future for a oced 7700k. A 120 or 280 AIO?

What kind of disk drive is he using for the OS and games?

Would that motherboard even let him leverage the capabilities of a K model cpu?

Looks kind of low end if you ask me.

2 practical options:
sell i5 and motherboard combo, sell both, get a decent Z based chipset board, Z170 or Z270, both will work,
or keep your B150 but i cant tell about OC on that board....

I cant oc with this mother but this is not a problem right now because the 7700k have nice speed stock...

So is better a 280mm AIO or a 120mm AIO? In a future i will buy a z270 to ocing the 7700k
