Potential GTX 680 upgrade on a budget :P :)

So my GTX 680 2GB is finally starting to show its age in the games i play, wondering what a worthwhile upgrade would be at a $250-350 CAN price point RX 480s are $360 at Canada Computers and that i think is the upper limit of my price range. I would have to wait a bit for a RX 480 as I would like an 8 pin aftermarket card. What on team green is worthwhile at a $350 max range.

No preference to Company, have used AMD and NVIDIA cards without problems Any and all advice is welcomed

You should be able to get a used 970 or 390/390X in that price range. I would recommend one of those or wait a bit/save a bit more for an aftermarket RX 480 when they come out.

I'm pretty sure you can get a good deal on a 970 here on the forums and people could ship to you. Just a thought.

Not really an "issue" to be honest. Nvidia screwed up and everyone knows about it.

i also dont play games at highest settings most of the time, unless its a Blizzard game and it doesnt take alot to run them on ultra (cept Overwatch )

GTX 680 = GTX 960 , so the option for a new video card which is worth , within the budget is RX 480 . GTX 1060 should be more expensive than RX 480 . 67% boost

670/ 680 are surprisingly strong even now, well they match the 900 series mid tier GPU's. (GTX 960)

An upgrade would be a 1060GTX or RX 480, though a 980Ti might be doable too depending where you look.

which 680 do you have? 2Gb or 4Gb variant?
i have seen pretty much hot deals on market here including GTX 680 & 670's, an sli could be another great option, even when i don't like SLi at all...

I'd wait for the GTX 1060 reviews then decide between an RX 480 or the 1060 & go from there.

Price-wise and to have at least a decent boost in speed, the Rx480 seems the best option.
It is also the best performance/cost-ratio card currently available.

You could wait a few months for prices to lower, like CAPSLOCKSTUCK mentions, but you can always wait in the land of PC.
Just see for yourself if waiting 3 months for 20 bucks discount is worth it; it ain´t for me (I am going after the first AIB when it becomes available)

I guess the Rx480 is really going to be the standard recommendation for many wanting to upgrade.

i've been looking around kijiji (buy and sell like craigslist) but noone is interested in trading hardware and the only 200 series i seen was a 280 and thats kind of a step down from a 680 im trying to sell an IdeaPad 100S and a tablet, but no luck getting $$ for them yet. There is a 970 for $300 on the site so if im able to move my stuff i could try to pick it up

wish i lived in the USA sometimes it would be easier to move stuff lol

I agree. 300$ (US or Canada $?) is quite a lot. You should be able to buy 970 for 250(US $). That might be a good price. 300 is way too much. I'm still waiting for price drop for all the cards. Got myself a 670 GTX just to wait since my old 460 was way to slow for anything. I'm waiting. Maybe you should wait a bit longer too. After summer it might be an interesting turning point for price and some new stuff show up

That $360 Canadian price for the RX 480 seems way too high.
Have you thought about driving across to New York shopping malls like Syracuse, Rochester, or perhaps closer; and picking one up for $200-240 USD?
If you wait for GTX 1060 reviews or later this year for possible RX 490 and more Pascal releases by Nvidia(Ti, TitanP), I would pay the fuel and shop in NY if they are overcharging in Canada.
