Not sure if this is a problem or not. Thought it might be wise to bring it to everyone's attention and see if there are any shenanigans going on.
I'm a little concerned that it was a direct email..

Brought this to W1zzard's attention but he's a busy guy.

Anyone else get this email?

Edit by W1zzard: Please post here if you also got this email so we can assess the extent of this. (putting it in first post so more people notice it)

seems legit. Orico is a well known mfgr for enclosures and gadgets.
Also the fact that he is not fishing on anyone but directly approached you per techpowerup.
Google his email address, answer and see if it bounces back.
I received many iffy mail, this does not seem like one of them per the theme. Also no links to click in the email , right?

Been discussed a bit on the mod lounge. Seems to be only sent to those who use gmail addresses tied to TPU, but I use gmail and got no email :(

True
Also the fact that he is not fishing on anyone but directly approached you per techpowerup.
Right, it doesn't seem like a typical phishing attack.
Also no links to click in the email , right?
Right.
Might be an Amazon review request. Typical of many companies these days.
Had thought about that. But the fact that the message both came direct to my gmail and referenced TPU made me wonder if is was a joint marketing thing, but also a possible attack on TPU[data breach]. Either way, W1zzard needed to be aware of it, just in case.

Might have went to other email providers but may have been flagged as spam? Maybe Gmail hasn't flagged them as spam because they're a legit company?

The message says it is looking for TPU members to do a review. It never said on TPU ;)

To me its like the ICD thing, but rather than make an ass of themselves starting a thread, they have opted to go another route.

That would imply that they might have got access to our direct email addresses. Then again, mine is easy to figure out as my TPU user name is the same as my gmail user name. How about everyone else? Same names as your email?

I might be missing the finer nuance of discussion but if a few people have had unsolicited emails, linked to TPU, that implies a hack on TPU? Unless TPU is sharing our data with 3rd parties against our consent (hello GDPR).

@the54thvoid not so much as hack as socially engineered emails, take a list of usernames from any given web forum and add @gmail.com behind them and see how many people if any respond. I responded back along the lines of thanks but no thanks, but if you are interested in a user base for reviews. Start a tpu forum acct and contact W1zz from there.

@silentbogo you are "super-special" j/k hahahaha

Confirm, i mainly use the same nickname all over the internet, created it in highschool, still using it. My gmail account was created at time when gmail was available only by invitation from someone who already has it

Found it. Wow that was a bit of drama! You kinda got messed over, though it's good that they replaced your cooler. I remember that nonsense and that stuff was in fact scratching dies. I saw more than a few of them. How much actual damage it was doing was open for debate, but there is no doubt it was happening.

Perhaps this "Dan" guy is aware of those or similar troubles and wants to be careful?

Maybe. Think about it though. It's kinda hard to reach out to the public without seeming like a gimmick or scam.

English is not everyone's first language. I remember seeing news releases from Thermaltake & other Chinese companies on TPU release rather funny news releases because something gets lost in translation (chinese language is back to front) but that doesnt mean that they are dodgy....

When you go to holiday in a foreign country where the native language isnt english. do you automatically label everyone there as dodgy because they cant speak english or dont english good? Dont be so ignorant.
