I for one never bother to use there "power-saving" feature because it only saves.. like 5-10w from a system like a gamer which are 90% who are going to buy such good motherboards that have those features.. it pointless...

@hayder.master> Thanks, nice article...I'm going to try it.

Surprised, only two posts, considering all who are trying and using ssds.

SSDs sounds like a reason to see a physician.

some people seem to forget that we humble followers of TPU are nothing more then working class folk (for most of us) - we cant ALL be made of money & the way your talking its like as if your saying hard drives are blasphemy.

Anyone caught using one should be shot.

-------

SSD's are still expensive despite how much they have dropped in price - they are still priced above the average salary (at least they are here in the UK - we work out nuts off & the tax man taketh away)

Yep, was working class, started working @ 14; now retired...
Nope, wish I did get a few million for a bonus...
Yep, IRS taketh, Got two pennies left...:ohwell:
Nope, I love my VRaptors...:)
SSDs sound like STDs...Get it?:slap:

Was my post mis-understood,maybe?:)

For instance a OCZ Vertex Series 250GB SATA SSD will set you back around £750

an Intel 80GB SSD - £350

OCZ Solid Series 250GB SSD - £557

& the crappy first edition OCZ 128Gb SSDs - 235

Back in the day when i use to do 60hrs+ a week average (I work less hours for more or less the same pay now LOL), I bought a ATi X850XT PE (AGP) for over £300 & I swore that that would be the first & last time i would spend that much on ANY component unless its really nessary. 5 years on Ive still managed to keep that promise.

5-10w pointless ?. Don't that depend on the user and how many drives he\she is using ?. I'm always up to saving some cash even if it's not much lol.

Anyways good to know cannot see me getting one any yet tbh.

its 5-10W per drive.

It definately depends on how many drives you have, and how often that machine is on.
If you have a PC thats on 24/7 with 10 hard drives that arent always in use, power saving is a very, very good thing.

I must admit, that article can be summed up in a very brief sentence.
"Fast SSD's need a fast CPU to reach their full speeds"

in fact most guys here are disable power saving cuz when they chose this mobo they think about overclocking , so with overclock you need to disable power saving for high overclock

let we talk about "fast cpu" so to be more clear this fast cpu mean high core clock or high cash , i think you mean the high cash win , and i think high FSB best state

No i dont mean anything like that at all.

If you have an 8600GT, even an older dual core athlon (4000+) is enough.

8800GT? 2Ghz core 2 duo, gets you 90% of its max performance. 4870? 3Ghz core 2.

Some people seem to think you need the most powerful CPU to go with the most powerful video card, when thats simply not the case.

CPU "power saving" doesn't bring much to the table in terms of savings honestly and moreover dropping the number of phases on a motherboard = less reliability. In cases where such a small power saving would yield some advantage, i.e. in a datacentre where there are a lot of CPUs, theres no point as it means less performance and productivity.

The SSDs themselves, with a slower CPU is STILL faster than any HDD comparitively and will STILL have the latency advantage. Don't let this article turn you away from SSDs... Its kind of obvious that the CPU would bottleneck at one point. THe only reason why we havent seen with HDDs is becuase nobody runs their CPU at super low clocks, at the same time as running a RAID array.

I agree with you 100%, except the very last part.

THe only reason why we havent seen with HDDs is becuase nobody runs their CPU at super low clocks, at the same time as running a RAID array.
Even with low clocks on a regular RAID array, the slower access times and delays of the hard drives would make it need a far, far slower CPU to bottleneck it than an SSD would.

an SSD would probably be hampered somewhat, even on an early dual core - a mechanical RAID array would probably need to be on a P3 or (early) P4 to show the same percentage of slowdown.
