Just yesterday bought a Superflower 750w titanium PSU and I hate the fan noise it makes. It's a weird hissing noise I've never heard a fan make before. Yes it's actually the fan not coil whine or something because as soon as I enabled ECO mode switch, it went away. Maybe it needs more time to break in but I said screw it, it's a 10 year warranty whether I have ECO mode on or off so I might as well have it on for the silence. Thoughts or opinions on ECO mode switches?

Normally I would agree with this but the new PSU fan was making a terrible noise so I turned it on.

I have my EVGA supernova on eco mode, I see no reason not too. Fan will still operate when required and it will be passive when possible. For me there are no downsides to that.

That being said, my EVGA did make some weird... ticking noise? The first week or so. I even contacted EVGA who told me that it was normal and will go away in a few days, which it did. Still have no idea what it was or why it would be normal.

It's literally 1 day old. I can return to Amazon for a replacement but I feel like it just might be a poor choice in fan.

I'm comfortable with ECO mode. Maybe I will toggle it off for a few days just to see if the fan breaks in and the noise goes away. On that note, these morons that designed this model decided to put the eco switch on the inside next to the modular cable inputs. To toggle it I need to remove my front panel and use a really long screwdriver. It's a PITA. Why would they not put this on the outside near the power switch.

It can be defective, who knows. If you don't need it soon, RMAing makes sense.

The first thing I did with the unit was plug in my power supply tester just to make sure everything was good and the fan didn't make any odd noises but that was with the fan facing upwards. installed in my case like 99% of cases the fan now faces downwards and ran all night long. Woke up to the noise and eco mode now has it nice and quiet again.

You have ac in your room? Just leave eco mode on as you probably aren't stressing the psu all that much with your system.

It's in the basement which stays cool-ish in the summer like 24c max and even cooler in the winter months around 20c. I do plan on a 3080 upgrade over the 3060ti as soon as my work backorder is filled so it will get stressed a bit more in the coming months.

RMA it. If you're hearing weird noises the day after buying something I'm not sure how replacing it isn't the first action.

Why not just return to store and get a new one? Seems like it should fall in the exchange window.

You bought a Titanium PSU; that's a very high efficiency rating reserved for top tier models. It shouldn't be making "terrible noises" from Day 1. Would you drive a new car away from a dealer lot if the engine was making "terrible noises"? I wouldn't.

Just return it. Remember that product quality is a bell curve. Sometimes a bad one rolls off the manufacturing line. Sometimes one that is extra special rolls off the same line. Care to take a guess which one you have?

You have the advantage of being under Amazon's customer satisfaction return period. That policy is there for instances such as this one. Use it because if you miss the return window, you'll have to deal with an RMA which will invariably require you to shell out cash for the shipping fee to the manufacturer's service center.

Eco mode just turns off the PSU fan until it receives a certain load. The fan will eventually come on.

The "fan burn in" reasoning is silly. If OP wants the fan to burn in, turn Eco mode off and let the thing make terrible noises until they stop. The fan isn't going to burn in at a standstill.

Get rid of the thing, get a new one and move on with your life.

Eco on should be fine, they built it intending it's use, and should self protect if it has to , I would.

Looking at some pics I took before installing it. I wonder if the fan hub is just ever so slightly rubbing on the grill. It lines up with the type of noise it's making. Looks pretty close doesn't it? With the unit flipped around on it's bottom, the fan can have some wiggle room in the shaft causing it to slightly rub the grill... I think I'm going to investigate that further.

EDIT: You guys are right. Started a return with Amazon. I verified when I went home for lunch that it's not interfering with the fan grill. It is 100% however the fan. Used a soft brush to slow it down while running and noise instantly disappears. On the flip side, I ordered the same Superflower Leadex III 80+ gold from newegg on sale for $90 with a $10 newegg gift card. Basically saved $75 for the same wattage just a 2% drop in efficiency.
