any idea when we going to see price drops for retail stores for your 1070s and 1080s. I am waiting for the price drops. I badly need to upgrade my 960.

I assume it'll happen when those cards get any kind of competition from AMD (e.g. Vega), or when NVidia releases Volta replacements.
More specific - some time between Q2 2017 and Q1 2018.
Prices ain't bad now. Just because some people have an urge to upgrade their 960s and have no cash, doesn't mean that prices will miraculously drop.

I see that you are from US. Where did you get that magic number $460?
GTX1070 goes as low as $350 at newegg, and there are lots of 1080 options near $500 mark.
If you sell your GTX960 - that's already $100+ off your goal.

Many people that bought a Gigabyte GTX1xxx series had fan issues....
Problems may have been solved though but personally I wouldn't buy a Gigabyte card from these GTX1xxx series.

I have one of these with samsung vram from the first batch, It's a good card but a while ago some cards with micron vram were having problems, which are I believe solved now since I haven't heard anyone about it anymore recently so it seems safe now.

Oh my bad, I've got an Gaming X not a Gaming Z...

Anyways it should be just as good!

A big heatsink is not an indicator of good overclockability.
Factory overclock is always within the stable safe range. You can probably get as much on any other card.

Another thing - triple fan on 1070 is an overkill.
Even a mundane TwinFrozr (used on MSI Gaming or HAWK series) is rated to dissipate >250W of heat.

BTW.. I just see in your system specs "ASUS 28inch 4k" ....
If you want a reasonable fps rate you will need a GTX1080 at least... Best a GTX1080Ti to get the best fps.

Eb@y has a bunch of 1080s and 1070s and prices are coming down. Auctions ending between 430-500 for 1080s. I have a bunch on my watch list still.

Found a guy yesterday selling his 1080s FE with ek water blocks and ek backplates on them, plus the original packaging and cooler and chatted with him a bit and bought them both for 500 USD shipped each. Not bad I think.

I wouldn't buy a GTX1070 for 4K gaming... Just sayin.
It will work but your fps vary depending on the game from 35~60fps.
