I'm planning to put corsair h100 liquid cooler in the case. My case is CM Elite 430 and MB is MSI X79A-GD45(8D). Motherboard top heatsink is the problem. it's too big. Question is, can I remove it, is there somekind of aftermarket solution for it? Or do I need a bigger case?

I feel for you man,, I had the EXACT SAME issue with that Cooler. Corsair is Pretty shady on the Detail's ,and the Video's are Kinda misleading.(or atleast they were when I bought it).Is it Just the Rad' that's in the way , or Do you have Fan's attached to account for? For example , Are the Fan's already Mounted?
Also I Couldn't tell from the pic's I saw , Does the HS have Spring loaded button's?? Or Screw's? Or adhesive?

I asked around in regard's to your problem , and it Can be removed ( carefully) of course. Possibly even run Without it All together, although it is a precarious situation, If you can mod the Rad or Fan's, Do that instead.Or if you can wait on a replacement HS of Lesser height , that Would be best.It will most likely be needed Especially if your planning on OC'ing. You might be able to get away with Some of those VRAM HS's for GPU's.
Those are available @ Any PC component eStore.

case has two 120mm fanholes on top. I can't even install 120mm fans there because of the MB heatsink. I found a video of elite430 and h100. radiator was inside the case and fans were outside. Ok, fans outside the case - no big deal. But shurely the radiator won't fit in the case either. I was thinking of sawing the heatsink smaller, but it's a new motherboard. Would like to try something else first. The MB heatsink is mounted with screws.

I wouldn't recommend removing the heatsink. Unfortunately, that case just isn't designed for that cooler. Maybe try to find a way to mount the fans on top of the case.

sawing was only I crrazy idea and I wasn't going to do that anyway. It would lower the value of the motherboard when I decide to sell it. But replacing the heatsnink might work. The stock heatsink seemst to be a block of metal and gpu vram aluminum ribs might even be better?

I am not planning to reach oc records and lowprofile heatsinks might work for me. what does this mb heatsink cool anyway, whats under? I've see pictures of x79 platforms with smaller heatsinks on top. So what is important to cool and whats less important. Might sound a silly question but would like to know.

I'm shure I'll get a new and bigger case some day. But I got this case free from a friend. And it wasn't even used. Has good airflow and is small. Sometimes we lan at my friends place and it's a good case to transport. Well I'll remove the MB heatsink carefully and see what can be done. Post some pictures even, when I've come up to something.

Bummer of a case for that cooler. Just make sure to remember to have airflow going over the VRM heatsinks. Lot's of folk think that the cpu is all that matters but if you replace that stock heatsink you need to make sure that area still gets cooled (use 120 fan on back vent to blow air in).

Sorry, have you got the h100 already?......another possible solution.... consider the new Corsair Hydro H80i, if you check the reviews you will see that it pretty much performs on a par with the (old) H100 and of course it's compact and cheaper.

http://www.kitguru.net/components/c...80i-liquid-cpu-cooler-review-firmware-v1-0-4/

I have one running an i7 930 at 4.2 gig 24/7 on 1.37v, and those things are toasty, max temp is 74C after 30 minutes of Linpack, the chip will run 4.4gig an 1.45v and even then she only just hits 80c.

I have a corsair 550d and could not fit an h100 if I was going to get one. My msi p67 gd53's heatsink gets in the way also. This case is supposed to support an h100... gee figures. You might be able to fit the h100 with 20mm thick fans too.

This is the air sink I found that I believe will fit mine, and probably yours as they are both msi.

I do not know how well this will perform especially in comparison to the msi stock one. I would assume it would be fine if you didn't overclock.
