Problem with new mobo

The motherboard in my friend's computer died, a Biostar I915P-A7, so I had to quickly buy him a new one, an ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA Dual Series. I have everything installed and everything was going well until it tried to boot windows, after about 5 seconds of the windows loading screen I get a blue screen and then the computer restarts. I double checked all the connections and everything appears fine, anyone have any suggestions?

The specs on the comp are:

Windows XP
P4 3.4GHz
2 X 512MB DDR RAM
Seagate 250GB SATA HDD
evga 6600GT 128MB
300W PSU

PSU looks weak. Did you clear the CMOS before loading the mobo with any drivers/os??

PSU should be fine since it worked good before the mobo died, and yah I did clear the CMOS.

Properly applied thermal paste on CPU?

Did you Reformat the HDD before loading drivers/OS?

Thermal past I applied properly, done it a hundred times before. Is it really necessary to reformat the drive? If so I'm gonna have to copy a lot of files to DVDs.

I just had that problem. I spent 14 hours trying to find drivers that my computer said I needed. It was the F@CKING ram.. I could not believe I wasted all that time for something so dumb. Try taking out all the ram and alternate using only one stick to make sure they are not bad. Or maybe you can borrow a stick from someone you kow who's works to see. I felt so freeking dumb.

lol, it isn't the RAM. I used 4 different DDR sticks and 2 different DDR2 sticks (the mobo supports both)and I keep getting the same thing. What really gets me is I can't read anything on the blue screen that appears after the xp loading screen, it flashes by so fast all I can make it is a bunch of numbers.

That is what happened to me it flashes and then it restarts the computer.

hmm.....I wonder if it's the mobo itself? I guess I'll get all the data off and then re-install Windows. If that doesn't work then it's the mobo.

same thing just happened to me as i was switching cases....same issue getting into windows. There is something to be said for trying to put in another PSU to test, as my OCZ GSX700 would fail everytime. DFI sent me a mobo , same issue ...hooked up Bestech 250 watt out of a Compaq..... solved it all.

I know it a pain in the butt...try it tho u may be surprised!!!!!!

I tried another PSU, my semi-old Ultra X-Finity 500W. Got the same result. I'm not sure if this would be effecting it or not, but the psu connector on the mobo is a 20 pin and the only connector that the psu has is a 24 pin, so I bought a 24 to 20 pin converter.

Well I re-installed windows and everything seems to be working fine. HDD probably didn't like it when I switched mobos. Thanks for your help though guys.

You must reformat the drive. If you don't you will always have little problems. It's not worth it. Reformat and your computer will be perfect.

i know you already fixed the problem but i thought i would tell!

I had bought a new mobo and cpu and windows refused to boot, it was a simple file in the windows folder that got corrupt and it just rebooted and rebooted, so i reformatted and bada bing it worked!
