Problems with Firefox 8.

I recently install Firefox 8 on a Dell using XP pro 32-bit and the owners are having a strange issue.

The only issue is that I am not allowed to open up Firefox. It tells me that a session is already running and that that process needs to be ended before a new session can begin. I have gone to task manager, but no session appears to be running. I have both restarted and done a full shut down, and am still not able to open the browser.

I tried having them reinstall firefox, and look for a firefox.exe in task manager again, but we simply can't figure it out.

Any ideas?

I had it working just fine here at the office.

Quote says that they have both restarted and done a full shut down. That would definitely log you out.

Other than a reinstall of FireFox, I'm not sure what to say.

Do they know to look in processes and not applications? I'd also go with Chrome over firefox for a simpler web browser on someone elses system.

Not anti mozilla, hell I use Nightly, just find chrome to be more stable although not as customizable.

Sounds like a profile issue.
If Firefox doesn't find the correct profile it will give that message even though Firefox isn't actually running.

Go into the: Documents and Settings\USERname\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox and look at the profile name inside the profile folder, usually something like 7abcdefg.default

Whatever the profile name is (numbers/letters), then look inside the above Firefox folder for the profile config file.
Open it with notepad and look for the profile line.

Should have something like this:
Path=Profiles/7abcdefg.default

Make sure they match. if the entry is wrong, change it to the actual name of the current profile.
save it and try. this should solve the problem.
