Program to quiet down blu-ray drive?

I got a blu-ray drive today and I installed it and its awesome and all BUT its louder then I had expected. Does anyone know if there is a program or something to quiet this thing down and stop it from spinning up to 48x on all CDs or something? I'm not 100% sure how this works but any help would rock as I love a quiet PC.

Maybe it's meant to operate in this fashion. Did you google around to see if the drive does this?

Nero Drive Speed can limit the read rate for optical drives. I used it in the past but not recently. Check it out.

Well, of coarse, but, I've come across some OLD programs (2002~) that can limit the speed that drives read and write to quiet the drive down. I'm a very patient person so I can deal with the cut in CD/DVD read/write speeds in an effort to keep my computer quiet.

I was expecting this drive to come with some software or on board options to allow me to do this, but alas, woe is me.

Perhaps there is some BIOS options? I'll check when I get home but I don't recall seeing any.

Silly question, but have you checked with more than one Blu-ray? I once got the odd rental Blu-ray that makes my drive make lots of noise, whereas it is normally quiet.

Yea, I saw that program and I'm going to try it out but I couldn't tell if its going to work with my blu-ray drive. The blu-ray only reads at 8x so its going to be quiet regardless, however, will it work with the CD and DVD read/write portion, spinning at speeds of 48x.

Well I just checked Drive Speed that came with Nero 7 Ultra I have, and it lets me limit the CD read speed on my DVD-RW drive.
