Well it's not their first rodeo, they DO know how to make a good sim(GTL, GTR2)..

Shift1/2/Ferrari are their latest work, none of which are sims or any good.

Agreed but they have it in them. I hope they haven't forgotten their roots. GTL was amazing for it's time. It has amazing FFB granted the cars were all a little "greasy" but it still stands up as a great Sim.

Shift 1 & 2 were not sims, but they are not bad games. If you expect a sim from EA you are being naive regardless of who develop it. Atari wanted Ferrari... to be dumbed down, same argument as EA. Again if you expect any major publisher to release a sim you are being naive. It's like expecting an ArmA like game from EA or Activision, it's not going to happen.

Unfortunately they have to make this games to pay the bills. With pCARS they can make the game they and the fans want, 99% of the fans want a sim, i want a sim, and i hope they can deliver what we want.

on a side note, the Automaniax site is live, there is a trailer with some Porsches and with the Hockenheim track with looks 99% the same as the one in pCARS.

But they talk about 1million+ sales, how will they achieve that if it's a sim?
The reason the big pub don't allow sims is because they suspect poor sales, so why will this be different?

Interesting, I only have the GTL mod for GTR EVO, and the cars are fun, but they have way too much rear grip, even high HP RWD V8's won't cut loose in 1st or 2nd gear, but try that with some of EVO's better cars and you'll lose the rear.....same with the awesome SS Camaro in Game Stock Car 2012, it probably has the most realistic 1st and 2nd gear behaviour of any car of that class in any sim.

In the GTL mod for GTR EVO the cars behave similar, not the same. IMO GTL is a bit harder than the mod for GTR EVO/Race 07.

Maybe they can reach 1 million with the copies sold of PC + PS3 + 360 + WiiU (and maybe next gen consoles). Since there is no sim (or a similar game like GT or Forza) from Nintendo, GT is the only serious driving game from SONY and the same can be said about Microsoft although IMO Forza is a few steps lower in the simulator area from GT. Also since both GT and Forza have their flaws, the most important being that they are more of a compendium of cars than real racing games, i see a gap pCARS can fill in the console market.

The console market will lap up any ole crap that's shiny enough.
I'm only concerned with whether it's a PC sim, and at this stage, it's nothing but a console racer.

They have a new launcher that whilst a bit slow for me, works a treat, so you dl a small program and it dls the whole thing and patches if necessary.

yeah it was quite nice. i had read about it, was checking out what was in the builds every friday to keep in the loop. gotta play my drums first, then ill be trying it out.

at your comment earlier about shift 1 and 2 not being all that good. well under the EA umbrella they had restrictions. For example they could of fixed the wheel issues with shift 2, but since EA didnt ask for a patch they couldnt do it.

For what we've seen so far, I'd say its a vast improvement over those games.

I agree, but I'm only hoping for a good racing game, especially MP.
Look how long Game Stock Car maker are taking with the Mini....it's literally been months just for one car, so I'm sure it'll be epic, but pcars has 50+ cars.

well its about how much time you want to spend on it. id imagine its an exponential equasion. To get closer and closer to 100% realism, you need to spend much more money and time. I like having a decent selection of cars to choose from. Ill take 95% realism for example, and have an extra ~20 cars.

just took a look at game stock car's website. there's so many smaller racing games out there that ive never heard of.

You might also be interested in Assetto Corsa, It will have a good selection of cars and tracks, not as extensive as pCARS though. I should make a thread about it here in TPU. Release: late 2012

.

I think it's more like a 35-50% deficit in realism and FFB quality....granted this game isn't finished.
For me at least, it's hard to go from sims to arcade as everything is a letdown from the driving POV.

Shift 1/2 were great games.

I am not sure where the simulation-elitist attitude comes from in some people, just makes you sound silly most of the time.

Shift 1/2 were great games.

I am not sure where the simulation-elitist attitude comes from in some people, just makes you sound silly most of the time.

There is also something that people forget, developers are the ones making those games but the whole concept is choosen by the big companies like EA, Codemasters and so on.
This is the main reason why SMS decided to make a game of their own without any of these companies behind them poking around and forcing them to do what they dont want.

Project Cars is made by the developers based on the feedback and funds by the community , there is constant feedback request from the devs about every development or feature added and they praise your opinion unlike some other games where they completly ignore you or release the game without having feedback from the actual people that will play it.
