PSU dying ?

First time i`m having this kind problem since '99 when my parents bought my first PC.
Is my PSU dying ? Seasonic G-650 from 2013, i got about 5 shutdowns in the last three days. Today i got a message that Asus surge protection triggered. I did undo all my overclocks, clear CMOS, but it still shutdown. Barley managed to do more than a stage in Dirt Rally tonight. Voltages on the 12V line is about 11.8V in BIOS and 11.6-11.9V in Windows. Don`t have a multimeter or other hardware that i could test it.

Should i RMA it and get a new one ?
The system is in the specs what brands are good today ? budget about 100-120 euros/USD.
Thanks.

You say asus surge protection, are you using asus Ai suit.
Its known to throw erroneous errors try uninstalling it and all its parts. I stopped using it for this reason in fact two years ago, id forgot that.
Also there is often a disparity between os based software like that and 11.9-11.6 isnt too bad ,its not great but should not be critical.

Those voltages don't look dreadful, 11.6 is low but shoudn't cause a crash in a non OC'd system.

Its the PSU.... I had a Corsair HX1050 that did the exact same thing. It would be fine for gaming but just suddently BSOD while i was surfing the net or typing up a few emails, Then other times it would happen while gaming.

Sometimes i would start my PC up and walk away to make a cup of tea only to find the PC dead when i returned. Problem disappeared when i swapped the PSU for an AX850

This triggered you are saying that i should turn it off ?

Corsair, Enermax or go Seasonic again ?
I'm saying if you have asus ai suit installed , uninstall all of it and see how it goes.

Or its the psu :) doesn't hurt to try.

Go Seasonic -- you managed to get 5 years out of it didnt you?? an EVGA G2 650w is also a good option

With Corsair - you need to buy into their extreme range to get rebadges from good manufacturers. CWT make a lot of the HX and RM PSUs and their build quality isnt always upto snuff so theres a 50/50 chance you might recieve a bad unit without knowing its bad because you can't crack it open and have a look at the soldering jobs.

Corsairs overall quality of PSUs have significantly dropped over the last two or three years and they dont seem to be as rock solid as they were once before.

Not really.....

I run with surge protection (in bios) on and i never had a problem until my 1050HX started dying. SO Its great as an early warning system. Droopy has been running the system for YEARS without a problem till just recently. For it to suddenly start triggering and shutting the system down means there is a problem and what you are pretty much doing is telling him to ignore it and carry on despite the risk of the PSU blowing out and destroying whatevers attached to it slowly growing exponentially

Voltages are still going below 12V while gaming or stress test to about 11.7-11.8V(software readings) that is not normal for a brand PSU. I would consider it normal for a cheap Chinese PSU that came in a bundle with the case.
https://seasonic.com/product/g-650/ it has all kind of protections so if to goes boom it should be safe(er) :) but i`m not willing to risk it just yet.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Software readings...meh... but they are all still well within spec (5% +/-).

I doubt its the psu.

Ive had that ovresurgee warning come up as well. Disabled it, no issues in my case. A quality psu like that will not take out other components.

Onky way to tell for sure if its the psu is to swap it out... my money is on something else...

According to the website, that PSU comes with 5 years warranty. It might be best to check your invoice to see if you are still covered under warranty.

I hate downtime so what i tend to do is buy my own replacement and sell the unit that comes back from RMA.

On that note, I do have a Factory Sealed Corsair AX860 thats just sitting here. this might be something for you if you want to make some beefy upgrades to your PC in years to come.

I bought a multimeter, the PSU outputs 12.3V on the molex connectors while running Dirt Rally and Prime 95 small fft at the same time. I guess that`s ok, no ? It shows about 11.6-12.00V in HWinfo though. I disabled surge protection or whaterver it`s called.

That's within 5% spec if you do the math... :)

12 * 1.05 = 12.6
12 * .95 = 11.4

Told you software is generally off. ;) :)

EDIT: You dont have another PSU in the house to use on this PC to confirm?

This

All software is notoriously inaccurate for checking voltages. If you need to check voltages, use a DMM.

if you do the math
I did :) There is still the issue of why it worked fine for 4 years and it suddenly began to do this. I guess some capacitors got old and the voltage regulation is not as tight as it used to be.
I have another PSU but i did not have time to swap it.

That is why i can`t RMA it, they will say it's fine, and it is for that part. Like i said above, what ticks me is why did it work fine for 4 years togheter with the same motherboard

Or.... Just buy another PSU to test out, and contact Support with your findings after you've ran the new PSU for a week and had no problems. Buy from Amazon, that way you can still send it back.

I bought a replacement from amazon before i contacted Corsair CC as i didnt want to suffer any downtime. Im an amazon prime member so I could have a PSU either on the same day if im lucky or the very next day at the most.
Contacted Corsair after i had everything up and running and they were more then happy to RMA the old PSU for me.

It has been running fine for three days now with anti-surge disabled from BIOS. Tested it in four games, IBT, Prime 95 and ROG. Thanks all.

I live in a country called Romania, here the customer is (almost)always wrong :) I bought an Asus MG279Q that has the frame skip bug at 144Hz, Asus Romania said it is working fine, even if i provided them with links that those monitors were recalled in other countries and had an updated firmware applied, to work as intended at 144hz.
