I might get an additional FuryX as well as upgrading my 5820K to an used 5960X. Right now I am using EVGA supernova g2 850watt PSU, Would it be possible for this 850watt PSU to handle two FuryX along with an overclocked 5960X?

Thanks!

Damn looks like I have to get a 1200Watt PSU then. This might be too much then

I find the wattage calculator pretty accurate. My APC UPS reported highest power usage was around 650Watt while the calculator predicted my current system to be around 630~640 watt.

I find that most calculators are grossly over rated.
Do the math yourself
FuryX = 220w x 2 = 440w
5960x = 140w
Everything else in your case = 50w

Total = less than 650w
and mind you, these are at full loads that you'll likely never see in normal usage.
850w PSU is fine.
Overclock everything.....and you're still fine.

According to your calculations mu current 5820K with one single Fury X should be less than 430watt full load. Yet here is a picture of my system under actual full load.

If efficiency is 80% the loss will be 20% so your draw at the wall will be 120% of the power drawn from your PSU. Your current system is using less than 500w at full load, and that's assuming you're getting true 80% efficiency.

These Calculators designed for PSU sellers always overestimate the power needed. The reason being quite simple---they want to sell you a more expensive unit!

one fury x and a 5820k... 620? what else is plugged in to the ups? what is "full load"? you do understand that is pretty much impossible, and us really obviously so, no?

220-240W is average not the max for a single Fury X

His PSU has 90+% efficiency

Nitpick all you want. It won't change the fact that the PSU is more than enough for his intended upgrade. It will never be loaded enough to worry about under normal everyday conditions including gaming or crunching.

Don't wanna believe the truth?, then spend your money on an overkill PSU that you'll never need instead of better GPU's or ram that you always need. It's your money. I couldn't care less what you do with it.

Might try stock clocks of the CPU , run a game and see the consumption

Let s adopt TPU calculations
Fury X x 2= 280W x2 =560W
CPU stock - 140W
other 100W
----
800W , might give it a try

If it gets hanging or restarting , new PSU

The CPU i7 3770K OC 4.8GHz
Yes, I said that already... Add 50W for an overclocked HEDT chip... that equals 700W on an 850W PSU...

For the umteenth time, a quality 850W PSU like he has is FINE.

God only knows what his UPS is reading or what else he has plugged into it. If that is just the System only, I am trying to figure out how in the world its possible to be pulling ~550W ACTUAL out of the system in his signature.

Perhaps not out . Or the readings got spikes

The g2 is a good psu and i think it gives more than 850w if necessary (when new atleast) , also i do not think you will use 100% CPU and both GPUs at the same time so there is that.
Note that the PSU fan might be loud when drawing 750-800w , which im certain it wont reach that much.

If you are going to overclock the furies i would certainly get a larger psu, they can go well over 300w per card overclocked

I ran overclocked 390's on an 850w xfx (seasonic based) and the things fan run full pelt in gaming

imo you should get a 1000-1200w psu, it may run on an 850 but it will be under a fair bit of stress and therefore noisy

a reliant robin can do at least 70mph, but i wouldnt want to use one for a daily motorway commute..

Umm, he doesn't have a POS PSU though...he has one of the best out there in the 850W supernova g2.

Just to put things into perspective, I ran a 295x2(500w card stock) overclocked and a 5820k overclocked to 4.5ghz on the G2 750W psu. The fan did spin up under load but the only reason I knew it was because I saw it, not because I heard it. Very quiet fans. 1KW+ is overkill... I dont see the point.

You should be fine with that PSU. It really is high quality. That 650 watt pull from your APC isn't how much the PSU is providing for your system due to inefficiency. The PSU is rated to provide 850 watts to your system. Also a quality PSU like the one you have also has a reserve capacity so you aren't in danger of overloading it.

I wonder how many of these people who are so hypercritical when it comes to the Power Consumption of various GFX cards, are running a PSU that is overkill for the power needs of their machine?

I just wanna chip in with a quick tidbit.. These PSU's seem incredibly well made, mine is running almost 24/7 crunching/folding/gaming, varying between 650-820W measured at the wall depending on gpu clocks, and even seen up to 900W when running firestrike. I guess that's still around 800W when you factor in efficiency, but what impresses me is how the thing never really gets warm at all, the fan doesn't even spin up much either. I'd recommend the OP get a wattmeter so you can see what's going on, but I don't think that 850W psu is going to have any problems at all, the rating seems very conservative.
