see if you can find a clear image of the case sticker, and google the UL# posted there. This will lead you to the OEM manufacturer, and may sway your vote based on that alone.

If you want the latest fastest generation graphics cards in dual mode (a.k.a. Crossfire HD4870 X2 or SLI GTX 280) you should start from BFG ES-800, Antec Signature 850 and Corsair HX1000, for example. Forget crap PSU's.

Corsair PSU's all the way. Rock solid. I haven't tried these guys, but everyoone says PC Power & Cooling are good as well.

Nooooooo.....SK....please dont get that one, Jonny Guru specialises in PSU reviews and is well known for accurate honest reviews, they say this PSU acts more like a 600W than a 950!

I am sure you are well aware that PSU's with this kind of rating cost big bucks, OCZ, Corsair, Tagan etc etc will all do you perfectly well, just keep shopping around to get the right deal!

Plus mefinks......dont get me wrong, from what I have read, some of their PSU's are pretty solid mid ranged units, just some apparently dont live up to their rating, I would have rather got the Hyper Type M 880W from the egg for $149.99 than that one, but it's difficult, these things are so pricey

Man, don't skimp on PSU. And if you have in mind 2 high-end video cards PLEASE dont' skimp on PSU.
What video cards do you plan to purchase and what's your PSU budget?
As a rule of thumb with an Corsair PSU you can't go wrong. Pick one which fits your wallet and enjoy it.

That is what I thought...Gold would equal good, but in the review on the Coolmax 700, gold connectors was put in on the MINUS list at the end of the review.
Please explain....The Good:

* very efficient
* active PFC
* adequate build quality

The Bad

* poor voltage regulation
* a little expensive
* modular cable connectors are gold plated

Wattage has been a thing in the past, If its not multi-gpu compatible then why did they put the connectors in to do that job? As for mega-watt PSUs, they are not worthwhile as they are not more reliable by a big gap as the only significant thing is that they put a dent in your energy bills. Just think connectors, not power. If that don't work, return the PSU and get a different one built with similar connectors. If that don't work, buy the PSUs from another store lol. If that don't work, get more wattage by 50W. As for efficiency, try out Coolermaster's ESAs or USPs (soon to be downgrading wattage so wait) or Corsair's TX or HX series as they are the first consumer-based PSU manufacturers to get the Silver effiency approval. And theres Dell PSUs, if you really want one.

How do they put a dent in your energy bills? They won't use any extra power than what it has to if the computer dosn't want it.

A very good build PSU: Win-Tact industrial grade, but IMO PC P&C are overpriced and you should be deaf to live next to it in full-load.
I'd choose from BFG ES-800, Corsair HX1000 or Antec Signature 850.

I paid 190.00 after entering promo code. I wanted at least 800 watts, and after looking at the reviews,...just about ALL of them are loud at full load. I doubt I will be at full load very often.

i don't know if you've made a decision yet, but i just put together my rig with a bfg es 800 and it's wicked, could've been modular but the tech involved was nice and it runs absolutely silent and has perfect specs. like dead on voltage

Not quite. Let' see:

PC P&C 860.

Even when loaded to just 25% of its capacity the unit was readily apparent in our testing environment. By the time the unit was fully loaded it was easily as loud, or louder, than the SM-8800 which is certainly an impressive amount of noise. While we typically say our impressions are subjective, after having used the Turbo-Cool 860 this power supply is loud; very loud.

BFG ES-800

Furthermore, subjectively, this unit was one of the quietest units we have tested to date at any power level. Users seriously considering a quiet power supply for just about any application should seriously look to the ES-800 as its feature set resulted in a power supply that quite simple was the sound of silence.

Corsair HX1000

During the first 50% of the unit’s output capacity the HX1000W was unremarkable in our test environment. However, once we moved to 75% load the unit’s noise output was detectable in our environment when listening and this continued to increase into Test #4 when we fully loaded the unit. The noise from the HX1000W was, however, never overpowering or even readily apparent in our background. The HX1000W is not a “silent” PSU, but it far from being offensive to the ear.

Antec Signature 850

The Signature 850 was the quietest 80mm fan cooled power supply we have seen to date. The unit was virtually undetectable in our test environment when locked in the incubator, though once removed the unit did have a distinctive presence though it was hardly loud and could easily rank among the quieter 120mm cooled units we have seen.

I doubt I will be at full load very often.

With two HD4870X2 or GTX 280 you'll be close to full-load.

Anyway, you have now a top notch quality PSU but far from a silent PSU.
