so im wondering the D5 pump can do 1500 l/h and the vpp755 can do 350 l/h is it worth it?
i had a d5 pump 10 years ago so im wondering is it worth to upgrade from vpp755 to a d5 ??

There are a lot of D5 "Style" pumps out there, the vpp755 is even one of them and all of them have different l/h and RPM and noiselevels etc...

Can your loop keep up with your Hardware? Is it getting to hot as is? do you want to have more Thermal headroom?

It depends on your flow rate. If you're getting less than the ideal 1gph then it might be worth upgrading. Otherwise you won't see any improvement.

Edit- that is really disappointing. I assumed the vpp775 was just a rebranded d5 but nope it's clearly not.

no it runs at 30% on idle web/b ect gaming it gos to 60-70 % still quiet i can only hear it if i put my ear near to the pump. i think its down to what fluid used if using coloured ect it makes the pump work harder i only use distilled water in my riggs.

Hi,
Only time you hear a d5 is if it's under stress
Best way to avoid stress is limit the use of 90 degree fittings.
Use 45 degree if you need to use a rotary otherwise if bending pipe do nice graceful bends not sharp turns.

I personally just use straight barb fittings and soft hosing.

The diffrence is design, VPP755 is designed for silence, D5 is designed for long term reliability and flow.

I personally went from Dual D5 to Dual Vpp755 due to the reduced noise in a little tiny office.
Works for me!

This question comes more often. The difference in the maximum flow rate is due to the type of calculation. Xylem, the developer and manufacturer of all known D5 pumps (we sell them as VPP655) is measured with an upstream pump. So the water is already accelerated and measured with 0 resistance.
The VPP755 is measured by us without upstream pump within a small circuit. If we would do it like Xylem, we would get similar values. But these are not realistic. You will never get values above 300L/h with a D5 in a water circuit, no matter with which pump, not even with 2 pumps. We tend to give a more practical value for our self-developed pumps, since we use more theoretical values.

Thank you for the correct Eddy, I shall try not to spread misinformation in future!
I will point out as I said, the VPP655 is considerable quieter than a standard unit.

@VaMoose
I don't see it as misinformation, it's already correct if you reflect the official technical data. You can't know how it is actually measured, because that is usually never openly communicated. All good. I just wanted to explain it once, because the question has come up a few times in recent weeks.

seams theres a need for a testing standard which can be followed by everyone i mean what good is it if everyone moves the goal posts ?.

@xtreemchaos
It will not be possible to obtain a universally valid test, because each manufacturer tests everything himself and is responsible for the correctness of the technical data. Since the manufacturers are also in competition, it will also not be possible to obtain uniform information on the measurement procedures. Also keep in mind that Xylem manufactures its test procedures for industrial customers. The D5 and DDC pumps for the water cooling market are only a minor side business for Xylem. They could shut down this business tomorrow and it would hardly change their sales or profits. Therefore, they have a test procedure that was specifically designed for industrial customers.

A counterexample fan. The information about the volume of a fan should also be taken with a grain of salt. Because there are no specifications in which distance the volume has to be measured. As a rule, the distance is measured at 1m. But this is not a regulation that is generally valid. Basically, you can also measure from 5m, then you have a great low result and it would not even be a lie.

i understand but us customers are your and other makers bread and butter and we deserve better, and the smoke and mirrors is not much good to us it makes confusion. i use Alpha cool products im just making a point its not directed at any maker just the whole.

seams theres a need for a testing standard which can be followed by everyone i mean what good is it if everyone moves the goal posts ?.
It's impossible. To many variables.
So many different rads on the market.
Length of tubing.
Water block restrictions.

Basically you can't believe any figure a pump manufacturer releases because their test system will widely vary from all the configurations out there.

Longevity. That should be #1 importance over flow rate.

agreed good point.
the makers could agree on a standard rigg for testing same size tubes, rads ect its not that hard.
" sorry i keep adding to this as im watching f1 testing and am a bit distracted"
then we could reproduce the tests if needed.

Hi,
Yeah D5 flow rate is one stat that is all over the place 1500 l/h yeah right

But one stat that hasn't come up is that D5's are water cooled and DDC pumps are air cooled I believe.

So Lowara no longer builds ddc and d5 pumps? Do you know what happened with them?
