Purchased a Vega 56 on HWS and it died first use

I got a Vega 56 and I plugged it into a test rig which has a 10700k and z490 board. It ran for a little bit then completely died before I could even do anything. First some slowdown of the system then finally crashed all together. It was detected in device manager for a time before it went kaput.

Been seeing if there is anything I could do to fix it. Fans don't spin up at all anymore, both bios don't give me anything positive. I like tinkering with stuff and would rather try to fix it before I ask for a refund and ship it back.

Is there anything I can do to try and fix it? GPUTACH lights don't even light up which I believe is a thing for all vega cards. I'm open to take it apart if there's any recommendations of what I can look for and test before sending it back.

Also if I need to get a multimeter I'll go get one as if there are advices where I can use one to test voltages and stuff I'd give it a go. Any advice would be awesome.

Hardwareswap on Reddit. The seller has been really nice about it all and has been messaging me back and forth. Probably got damaged in shipping. But just looking for potential fixes before I take that route.

Hopefully your combo isnt damaging gpus, go buy a display adapter, not a Graphics accelerator for testing or go to a shop.

Test the Vega Card in another system.

There aint no changing hbm either as the whole chip has to be replaced

Do vegas have anything weird that has to be changed in the bios? I just got another Vega 64 and it does the same thing. The system I plugged it into is a brand new rig running pop OS.

I will say this. Vega56 and Vega64 will not work with weak PSUs. My son learned that the hard way when I gave him my Vega 56. It just wouldn't power on without a good 650W.

It's a brand new 1000w unit that I have plugged it into. I doubt I'm getting really bad luck like this. I feel like I'm missing something. Does it maybe want a display port connected?

It might be POP OS that's the problem not the card

It won't even get detected in msi bios under board explorer I'll run a windows install and see if that fixes it. I ran an r9 390, and a 3060 ti on that same rig and both booted up fine. So I just have a feeling I'm not that unlucky with used cards

Try both cards in another system possibly on another location to see if there is a power issue, just to rule that out.

Seller probably knew it was broken. Don't feel obligated to keep it. Get a refund and move on.

Put the card in a different rig, or go to a shop or just return it
