I don't wanna get the Rampage 2 Extreme 'cause it's too pricey. I'm not spending £300 on a board. I'd like to spend about £260 or under right now. £270 max. In my opinion the R2E is a rip off. I want a high end board.

The DFI boards look nice, especially this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-055-DF&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1283

It's the best one in the list. I suppose I can go around £300 for a high end board then. Oh well.

I am looking at that DFI board (not a fan of that tall northbridge cooler?), also the MSI Eclipse: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-107-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1283 OR the EVGA or maybe the latest Gigabyte board?

by NB cooler do you mean the bit that hangs outside the case? (DFI calls it the Flame Freezer)

it is optional to use, but if you can make it work I would suggest to install it.

Cyber Druid just built his son a rig with this board and he seemed to like it alot. Maybe shoot him a PM and address any concerns you have and he may be able to help you along with your decisions!

I wrote this yesterday for someone who wants to build an i7 system including monitor for 1k... since you're upgrading, you'll only need CPU+MOBO+RAM...

so 3GB ram should be enough for you, or take the 6gb linked in quote

take CPU+MOBO linked below... great price after MIR... oh wait your in UK..... ummm, could you link me to UK retailers? but look at these in UK retailers (crucials and DK, UT DFI boards or UD4P, UD5 or extreme GB board)

what is your current display? let me build you a good i7 rig... I've been following it VERY closely since Jan, and I know the best bang/buck... would just help to know your display... PM me for any questions or if I forget to post the system I suggest tomorrow :)

EDIT:

CPU+MOBO

here's the link

for RAM: OBVIOUSLY this... OC like Hell too

nice bang/buck this 4850x2

thats 745$- 30$ MIR = 715$ sooo about 300$ for the rest

if you need monitor : This is the bomb

905$ after monitor... ~100$ for case HD and DVD-RW? Ok...

HD: 500gb on a SINGLE PLATER (makes it much faster)

DVD-RW: basic

Case and cooling left? well there's about 15~20$ left on a 1k budget, so you might want to bump your budget up

will find you a solution and put everything together tomorrow, but I'll suggest a good case + fans, and if you don't want to go past budget too much, You can buy the CPU cooler later on...

for CPU cooler: this

so talk to you tomorrow!

EDIT2:

I just thought about it, you could step down the GPU ... so the 4830 is a great card... Here it is...

That leaves ~130$ for case left including the CPU Cooler...

as I said, I'm on it tomorrow and I'll show you the final price in a shopping cart

EDIT3: actually, I'd suggest to to bust your budget to get the 4850x2... or get 4830 first, then buy 4850x2 when you got $$ and put the 4830 on your current rig

I should go for the MSI cuz it has lots of tweaking fun enabled :)
Or go with the Asus P6T Deluxe V2

^^ yeah.

I've decided on the EVGA x58. Chicken Patty said it's a great overclocker and he's happy with it. It has nice features in the BIOS he said too.

Good choice. I have a EVGA X58 and it is a pretty solid motherboard. It has a great power regulation and distribution setup. The only issues are those with BIOS maturity. However, I believe with another BIOS release or two, most issues will be taken care of.
