Hi there,

I have a Q9400 @ 3.6GHz (Vcore on 1.375),
and i wonder what the max safe temp are on this CPU.

I have now (with CoreTemp) around 60C each core at FULL load, and around 40 IDLE.
Is this good temps for this CPU?
Cause im not used to Quads, this is my first.

Everything works fine, for now, i just want to know where the limit is so i can be prepared if something happens. :)

The cooler im using is a Zalman CNP8700 NT, and worked great with my E6300 @ 3.2GHz.

Thanks.

I generally stop mine when they hit 60c, that's high enough for me.
They can run quite a bit warmer safely but better off keepin em cool.

Some people say 70c, some run up to 80c *that's pushing it*.

Get a better cooler, that's not really good temps.
My old Q9400 was at 3.6ghz and never broke 50c on a Xig 92mm with a single fan.

And as always, fill in your system specs, always helps people give you solid advice!

That's fine for that CPU. DOn't go over 1.4 volts on these CPU.

Yeah, I know that. ;)

Is Scythe Ninja II (Rev. B) a good Heatsink?
It's better then mine, but it has a good price here (In Sweden, ~73$).

If not, recommend a good cooler, with the price around 70-75$.

Thanks.

You could probably get 500FSB with lower volts if you switched a to a P45/X45 based motherboard. Most p35 based boards won't go much further than FSB 465.

Also have you played with your GTL/Lane voltage settings. I found with my q9650 that I could lower the VCORE by increasing my GTL settings and Skew rates.

My Q9400 is running nicely at 3.66Mhz on a P5Q PRO motherboard. I use a Corsair H50 cooler (£60 from CCL) and temps never rise above 59c using Prime95 with RealTemp.

I have an Antec 900 case and the H50 cooler allows me to use all fans as intakes apart from the 'BigBoy' fan at the top which is used as the exhaust.

Anyone with this m'board and processor wants the settings i use, just ask :pimp:
