Which CPU is more powerful and better for gaming?

Six Cores AMD Phenom II Hexa-Core X6 1100T Black Edition 3.3GHz / 3.7Ghz Turbo Socket AM3 9MB Cache

or

Latest "2nd Generation" Intel Core i7 2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4Ghz/3.8Ghz turbo core x 4 Quad Core LGA 1155 8MB Cache?

People have been telling me that the intel i5 2500 is a better option than both CPUs, as it is better for over clocking, however I am new to pc, and don't know how to over clock.:banghead:

Your advice will be MUCH appreciated.

Hello,, definitely i5 2500k ,,it doesnt support hyper-threading and has bit less cache, but apparently these things have no noticeable impact on gaming. Make sure to get a decent cooler because 2500k wants to be overclocked ;)

Four cores is more than enough for today's gaming which is limited by architecture speed. Tomorrow's games will need more cores/threads. Go with a second gen i5 or i7 if you are building a new gaming system and need a new motherboard anyway. If trying to save cash and recycling an old AM2+ or AM3 motherboard, an 1100T will be good enough, although a Phenom II 955 is still a smarter buy. If it's not urgent, you may want to wait a month to see what the new AMD Bulldozer processors have to offer.

Quite frankly the 1100T isn't in the same class as 2600(k)/2500(k). If you're planning to overclock then drop some more bones on the 2600K/2500K because of the unlocked multiplier.

Just look at the reviews, the 2600K/2500K are excellent price/performance chips. The HT available in the 2600 series is good if you're doing a lot of multitasking, but you probably won't notice it unless you're a power user.

i5 2500 if your not overclocking - i5 2500k if you are overclocking. Go with the 32nm CPU it is intel's latest offering, no point investing in a very soon to be outdated platform. Or you could wait for bulldozer to come out which is apparently in a months time, it is win win since even if you decide to go intel at that time, prices will probably drop.

EDIT: To be more clear, since bulldozer will be releasing their chips mid june (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/di...alizes_Shipment_Dates_for_Next_Gen_Chips.html), I wouldn't really say an overhaul upgrade to AMD is worth it at this point, it would be best to wait it out. If you are really itching to do a platform upgrade now then you should only look towards sandybridge atm.

The 2500 has for real cores and no hyperthreading, so you can take your fanboyism elsewhere. If you're going to try to slander the competition, at least do your homework on them :shadedshu.

2500 is going to be better clock for clock, so unless you're doing super heavy encoding or video editing, the 2500 will be faster.

It all depends on when you need this system. If you need it right now, The 2500k is the best processor you can get for gaming.

If you can hold out about a month, AMD is releasing their new Bulldozer processors which may or may not beat Sandy Bridge.

So called "leaked benches" have Bulldozer looking pretty good. But then again, no one knows if they are real or not.

If you can afford the wait, I would recommend to just to be sure.

Edit: I just rehashed what damric said because I somehow failed to read his last sentence. :D

Alright Pound for pound the AMD 1100T is not even in the same universe let alone same class. The i7 2600k and i5 2500k will completely hands down beat any AMD cpu sold today. While I am always an under dog fan and I would love to give AMD a chance. It's just a plane fact right now it isn't happening. Even if you are able to overclock the AMD 6 core it still won't be close.

But Bulldozer FX8100 is releasing soon. There AMD might gain some ground back. From the looks of things those CPUs will be competing against Sandy Bridges back and forth in a slugging match. But for right now... if you have to upgrade go Intel.

If you want more information go to the front page of TPU..... http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Phenom_II_X4_980/

There is a reason you only see the i5 2500K in some tests and the i7 2600k in none of them. Why because they don't compete.

I forgot to add that the release of Bulldozer should push the Phenom II prices even lower, so that could be an option if you choose to wait as well.

As I said in your other thread, there is literally no reason to buy an AMD X6 CPU right now. If you really want to go AMD, wait for Bulldozer. If you really want to upgrade now, go for an i5-2500k. When it comes to gaming, the i5-2500k destroys everything AMD offers. Anything other than like, Cinebench, the i5-2500k is a much better purchase, and if you were planning on using Cinebench heavily, the 2600k I believe murders the AMD offerings lol.

Even Core i5-2500K would be better than X6-1100T.

As some have mentioned already, only good reason to go for AMD's X6 is if you already have the motherboard for it.

Personally, I'd wait a month and see what Bulldozer brings. But if you *have to* upgrade today, go with i5 2500K

It's too bad that the second gen i3 does not have an unlocked version, as that's the one I would get. I guess it would compete too much against the higher chips though...

If I were upgrading today, I would definitely go w/ the Intel SBK's. I have a 2600K and it's been an awesome CPU. Things may change in June, but I wouldn't hold my breath on a significant price drop from Intel. I thinks it's more likely that AMD will charge a bit more than we're used to seeing for their new offering, especially if it competes well.

1) Yes, as a whole but there can be some dogs.
2) Seems some better clockers or lower vid chips come from the very low or highs - maybe that's how they are cutting the wafer nowadays.

Thank you for the explanation.

Batches, overall, do matter.

I binned 10 CPUs from the same batch. So random, one really good chip, the rest, well, good, but nothing worth mentioning.

but look at this picture:

Notice the difference?

Which one do you think is better?
