Question about bent pins

If pins are bent does this prevent the computer from functioning at all? Because I just reseated my processor but I heard kind of a very light "crinkling" sound as I put it back in. I'm not sure if I bent any pins or if I merely grazed over them with a slight movement. I'm currently on the pertinent computer typing this and I don't see any problems but are bent pins meant to stop a computer's function completely or just drop performance/stability? Basically, if my computer is functioning right now does that mean that I didn't bend any pins? Thanks.

take the CPU back out and check it?

it is possible you bent some pins that arnt being use'd if so then yes it will still work.

Oh yes I forgot to mention, it's a Core i7 920.

In what situations will all the pins not be used :/? Will they all be used if I use an application with 100% CPU workload?

If you did bend any pins, you didn't bend the CPU pins, you bent the motherboard's pins, which are a pain to fix.

Some pins are grounds.

if you only break the gound pins the cpu should still work, however if you break enough of them (or bend them) then this could happen if you load your cpu 100%

dont fear tho, the chances of that happening are very low.

chances are the cpu never would have booted. i doubt any pins are bent, but why not check it anyway?

I have a liquid cooling system installed and installing/uninstalling the processor is an arduous process. Plus I don't think I would recognize a bent pin even if I saw one.

Ultimately, it's up to you, but I would at least be sure to look into it the next time you clean out your loop.

Are you sure you bent them? I know that when ever i mount a socket 775 cpu in a motherboard it makes kind of a crunching sound when going in but non of the pins are bent.

You might have scraped off some gold coating on the pins. Not a big deal.

I would be very surprised if you have actually bent any pins. My advice would be just to leave it as it is now that it's all together and running.
