So a friend of mine at work bought him a Bluray player (only) for his computer. Im not sure which one but he got it from newegg. It came with PowerDVD software for playing movies on. He has his monitor hooked up HDMI to HDMI and when he goes to play a Bluray movie, it plays about 10 seconds of the movie then suddenly stops. Im not sure if its a codec, the software or what. HE has an HD4870 card as well. Ill see if I can get him to register to the forums to provide more details but if ya'll know any ideas, Id appreciate it.

And here is "Paps" the one who has the problem THE EAGLE talked about. LG bluray, Gigabyte P45 UDRP, latest 4870 drivers, card, software and drivers are HDCP ready. Even software program that checks all components for HDCP compatibility says its ready to go. Using hdmi graphics card to hdmi monitor ports. After 10 seconds of actually HDMI quality play, a window pops up that warns " HDCP cannot be enabled, go to vga/dsub to play bluray". Monitor plays bluray from stand alone blyray player just fine so its not the monitor I think. Any help is appriciated.

You updated your PowerDVD software from the git-go correct? I know that the software on the CD is outdated.

That's my first guess as well. If it's a newer BluRay, it may have a tweaked portection scheme on it, and PowerDVD would need updated to be able to use it.

Have you tried numerous BluRays?

Maybe try Arcmedia True Home Theather? It is the better player when it comes to bluray.

Any DVD did the trick

Looks like the Anydvd suggestion worked or at least for 21 days (free trial).
The Power DVD website has a whole string of complaints about Power DVD SINCE 2007
Looks like another piece of software released at the beta level and dumped on the public.
Nobody has fixed it since 2007?? And dumb LG takes for their software CD without testing?

Thank you all for the replies, great forum!!!!!
I am sure I'll be back LOL

Wile-e, you damned TPU junkie, 10000+ posts.
What is the operating system? probably vista im sure.

I would reinstall codecs (use FinalCodecs 2008, ive got a copy if you want it) and good software, which powerDVD isnt (as far as ive been with it anyway)
