Question about DX10

if DX10 is a software, couldnt ati or nvidia or someone make a new driver that has DX10 on it for our DX9 cards theoretically?

having seen a whole bunch of new dxs come out it will be ages before the software gets written to take advantage of em..

it works like this.. first comes the new dx.. then comes the new dx compliant cards then ages afterwards comes the software that actually needs or uses the latest dx..

this one is odd in the sense they say it aint gonna be rearwards compatible like all the previous ones.. which in my book says for at least three years dx 9 will be running along side dx10..

And a 20% performance loss IS a big deal, although it really isn't if you have a high-end card like a x1900xt or something...

the emulation will probably cause a 20% loss.. running all the extra dx10 goodies will probably cause another 60% loss.. not exactly leaving much to play the game with.. he he

i have to agree with trog, running a game designed for directx10 wont look nearly as good on a directx 9 card.

Isn't its Windows fault that hardware isn't utilized to its fullest, I thought thats why Linux distros can run so well on older hardware.

there used to be term called "bloatware" dont here it used much now.. mainly cos "bloatware" has become the norm i would guess..

I agree with TROG100. As I understand Windows Vista is the only thing that will be using it right off the bat and I for one am not going that route till I see that they have all the backwards compatibility problems worked out. Anyone remember XP when it was first released? I have been around since Trash 80s (TRS80 for you young ones) and have learned the hard way to be a little more patient. The cutting edge is a two sided knife and can also cut those who are not carefull in ther choices.

DX10 will probably take mroe bandwidth, so AGP 8x might not be enough anymore, so PCIe X16 is where we all are.

A $100 PCIe motherboard is nothing compared to the $450 for a new DX10 card, $140 for Vista (which iirc is required for DX10), and another $50 for the first DX10 game that hits the streets... not to mention that the 1st-gen DX10 cards are reported to require better PSU's than are generally in use now.

I'm firmly in the camp that says, no gamer will seriously need DX10 compliance for about 12 months. By the time you want to seriously play the games, you will have a new proc and motherboard anyway.

very true but luckily ill be in college by the time i have to upgrade and the scholarship im gettn will give me tons of money to work with so, when im outta class and have some down time i will have the best computer there lol(Texas A&M so it wont be to hard)
