We recently got some brand new computers in school, and the techguys have had a field day with them. Before, whenever I stuck my flash drive into the usb drive, "My Computer" would recognize it, or I would just have to "view hidden folders." But now, whenever I plug my flash drive into the computer, windows will recognize it and install the proper software, but the drive will not show up in "My Computer." It annoys me, because since everything is blocked, I have to download music files from home, so I can use them in DarkBASIC. Does anybody know what to do?

he has probably done a modification like this to the windows registry, in order to hide drive letters from been displayed in "my computer".

Assuming that, you could alway try to find by yourself which letter has been assigned to your usb drive by doing as follow:

1/ do win + R to have an exec dialog box pop up
2/ type diskmgmt.msc and see if your usb drive is listed here
3/ once you have identified your drive and its associated letter, close this management console, do another win + r and type the path to your usb drive (i.e F:\ )

By now you should have access to it eventhough it's not listed in windows explorer

My work computer does that too. Try going to My Computer, then go up one level then back to My Computer and it might be there. It's just one of those things.:wtf:

(Or you could try "View Refresh" when in My Computer too.)

while i sympathise with what you're trying to achieve ( i used to by-pass college lock-outs back in the day), i also understand why schools and workplaces do place restrictions: viruses from outside sources. flash drives and floppy discs are one of the prevalent contributors to viruses being spread to desktops in public areas.
