The other day, I asked the community a question, one time. Only in one post, in the correct category. The first response was a moderator asking me to stop spamming my post.

So now I'm lost. What is the definition of spamming in this forum? It was a single, well written question. Are there any other rules I should know ahead of time, besides being family friendly. I do not want to reoffend, because I like all of your software and would like to not get banned for a miscommunication. I just want to know the rules. Because I could not find anything in the digital papers I signed what this moderator was complaining at me about. What does spamming on techpowerup look like?

-Thanks, Bob

Let me answer with a picture from your thread:

double-post.png

The problem is multiple consecutive posts from single poster. Edit your post if you want to add new information instead of creating another post. Editing is possible for several hours (maybe even a day) ...

o now I'm lost. What is the definition of spamming in this forum?
this website works with a "recent Thread" ticker, keeping the most recent content in that section. & When You keep adding "oh i forgot to say thanks for Your help" ...then another minute later You post "i forgot my card is from Asus"....than another few minutes later the same thing. All in new posts instead of just adding that unimportant info to previous posts it is "spamming" & also blocking others content from being ttt.

If youve ever seen a Child keep calling its mother , over & over again......its similar to posting over and over again...just wait for another member to reply, or edit.

The other day, I asked the community a question, one time. Only in one post, in the correct category.
thats not true. you asked a question in your original post, but then continued posting new posts for 3,4,or 5 more comments. Its not the end of the World, but I recommend (respectfully) that you try to post less aggressively in the future. RULES

*EDIT*
redacted.

First of all, it was jboyd who called you a spammer, not a moderator. The moderator then posted that you should stop double posting, or he may close the thread.

@jboydgolfer, your assertions in your post are strong, and there is no evidence to back up that he has had a previous account. Also calling him a liar and betting your rep on it isn't a very cordial way of helping new members understand what is expected of them here at TPU. Relax a bit man, it is not that important to get worked up over.

I agree it's certainly no reason to get worked up.

And you're right I don't have any proof that he had another account.which is why i said its my opinion. Also i never called him a spammer, i just asked(politely) that he not spam.

he knows that he was spamming his thread, he was told so before it was cleaned up by a moderator, which is why i wasnt so cordial. And I still would stake my reputation on the fact that he is lying because it's a fact not an opinion. I certainly wouldn't dissuade a new member from asking questions, and that wasn't a part of his post I took exception to. But I did have a problem with the fact that he was lying and furthermore that he was claiming or at least insinuating that a moderator had unfairly warned him of his posting habits while he had done nothing wrong, i dont regret standing up for the truth , or the actions of tpu staff.

@Rob4642 If you haven't done so yet, I suggest that you read the rules and ask here if you have any questions about them. At the bottom right of this page, you'll see a link to them called "Terms and Rules".

@sneekypeet Are those now the sum total of the forum rules on TPU? I remember them being quite long and detailed previously. I've had a look around and can't find anything else.

It's due to facebook. It's not entirely OP's fault.

Older people who are used to the traditional forum know the forum etiquette.

The next generation who started with Facebook find double, triple (and more) posing norm and it is accepted on Facebook.

Yeah, that's it.

There used to be a link on every (or at least most) pages for it, making it easy to find. Given its importance, it should be the easiest thing for a member to find. If the OP hasn't read this, then I'm not surprised that he's double posting and not realizing that he's breaking the rules.

It is a sticky in the comments and feedback section ;)

Yes, but one has to know to look there to find them. Rules should always be in the About section of any forum, or linked to from every page.

I'm a good example here of the problem with the current approach: I'm an old fart* here who knows the rules, but had forgotten where they were so couldn't find them. Hence, how is a newbie like our OP expected to find them then other than luck?

@W1zzard tagging you to suggest putting a link to the forum rules on every page to make them easy to find. If not that, then clicking Terms and Rules at the bottom right of every page should have a clear link to them.

*Stop sniggering. :p

Does not matter either way as long as a link to it exists somewhere, somehow.

99% of users won't bother reading. Reading itself is a severe torture for many.

Don't mark my words, but I reckon reading will be banned in 100 years or so.

@Rob4642 No real harm done. Just try to edit your posts to add in something you forgot. If you want to make sure people know about the addition, start it with "EDIT:"

There are exceptions that no one including a mod are going to ding you for. Say you posted, and then for example 6 or 8 hours later you have something new to add on that same topic, it's ok to write a new post if no one else has commented.

Hopefully that plus the rules @sneekypeet provided will assist. I look forward to your continued participation here on TPU!

I've never read the rules. The rules in general are similar across all forums.

Don't spam.
Don't double-post.
Don't troll <- which I find very hard to resist. I love trolling, especially against fanboyz.
Don't offend others and so on. / Be respectable to others.
If you belong to a company or something, don't advertise your products
and so on.

How many stickies are there already that say read this first before posting!
I've never opened one of them, posting is common sense, do a search first, if it's a unique issue create a topic and don't spam it, personal info is a no no, advertising is not allowed, no bumping or multiple threads on the same topic etc.
Can we add guys in short skirts should be banned too? :p

Thanks. Wow, i've been downloading from techpowerup.com for years and years through their awesome video BIOS selection to their fabulous GPU-Z, and kept my mouth shut. I think I'll go back to doing that. Completely irrelevant but I just built this for my dad for father's day.

Nice clean build! Your Dad must be happy with it right?
Runs like a server. He had an AMD fx-6200 or something, so going to a 7th gen Intel I-7 was a big change. What made the biggest difference is I used a WD black m.2 NVMe SSD and it made all the difference. SATA has high latency, low speeds. Connecting the ssd straight to the board helps a little.
