Hello there.

Right now with my i9-10850K at 5.0 its running good but its running hot and using alot of power. And here after all the new CPU's/Platforms there are and seing how far long my cpu has fallen in benchmarks. My question is Z790 platform or AM5 ? Already upgraded to a 6900XT(XTXH) Waterforce Gigabyte one and im using full watercooling so cooling is no question. just wanted your guys opinions.
I was thinking about the Asus strix B650E-E and 7700X

Thanks !

Hi,
Could just be worn out thermal paste which did you use ?

Or clogging water block so which fluid do you use ?
Usually a yearly maintenance thing cleaning/ changing both.

Everything is fine , temps are from high 20’s to high 60’s in gaming and apps.

I see no reason to upgrade at the moment, your specs are solid and 10850K is a damn fine cpu, as far the benchmarks go don't take them as gospel, because if you do you will be spending your money every time a new piece of hardware comes out, if you really want to upgrade now i would go with Z790+13700k but personally i would wait for the next gen.

I believe the AM5 setup would be a viable choice, a stop gap would to grab an 11th gen core i7

Indeed, but there is little reason to go with 11th gen, only the latest AM5 or 13gen

Hi,
I was just going by your first line
If all is fine what's up with the beginning statement ?

Either way only platforms worth thinking of are newest amd 5-7k or 12-13 series intel.

Nope only PC
Dude, you can get an xbox controller without the console. It connects via Bluetooth. Just the controller. Then you play on PC.
Try it, you will never go back :toast:

I haven’t been paying attention these past few cycles but seems like Ryzen is the best choice if power consumption is the concern? Someone please correct me if I’m wrong

Without buying the entire console. U can just buy a spare controller and play on your PC.
Basically you have these options: keyboard, mouse, xbox controller, steering wheel, etc

So yeah, u can play on PC with xbox controller without buying the whole console

Dude you're not even close to thread topic. OP wants a lower power draw chip.

OP, your temps are perfectly fine and going to anything else might show higher temps but lower power draw. I'd be checking TPU reviews.

Well, I kinda meant a CPU made in July 2020 doesn't need upgrade right now.

A controller has nothing to do with a processor.

And here after all the new CPU's/Platforms there are and seing how far long my cpu has fallen in benchmarks. My question is Z790 platform or AM5 ? I was thinking about the Asus strix B650E-E and 7700X

Thanks !
That is a great combo. I feel that as time goes on people with all in (AMD/Intel) PCs will feel the benefit more but AMD is already miles ahead of Intel (for now). If you already have a 6900XT, common sense to me says that AM5 will last you much longer than Z790. There has been no official news from Intel that they will support the current CPUs even for the very next generation. With the card you have and chip like the 7700X but knowing that you could get the 2nd generation X3D chip or upgrade to whatever you want. With the flexibility of multi generation support AMD has created it's own used market for AM4. Getting into AM5 early means that 3 years from now when both companies launch 7 GHZ CPUs that all you will need to do is buy a CPU to get a compelling upgrade. As badly as I want the 7900XTX it is more for curiosity but the fact that I am a Gamer helps too but the 6000 series are all good. Good luck on your purchase decisions.

Yea its in a good range but when im gaming its at 65+c and using about 200w og power. I dont really like that tbh. I was also thinking about the ryzen 7700X
Are you sure that it's consuming 200W while gaming? Unless you're running an insane overclock on it (5.0 GHZ All core still i wouldn't think it would reach 200W) i don't really think it should be consuming that much power for gaming unless you also do heavily MT stuff as well. Also 65 °C is fine since the CPU is already overclocked and you're doing watercooling with it

I would suggest you keep the 10850k as it is still a pretty strong performer, my opinion is that if the CPU is not limiting your capability to run stuff and that you are satisfied with the performance that you get then there is no reason to upgrade
