Its simple, i got this idea, i see the data there is ( also given in this thread ) , and yet i am still not a 100% convinced that it will not work, simply because nowhere have i read the info that i need in order to come the conclusion that it will not be possible, no body has answered the following questions:

Did Nvidia actually lasercut crucial parts of the 980's pcb to create a 970's pcb?
Why is there a Total available graphics memory of 7915 MB shown in my 970's properties???
Does GPU-Z reads the ACTUAL hardware data, or does it just reads out the BIOS DATA.

And then there is this new thing i just found : http://overclocking.guide/increase-the-nvidia-power-limit-all-cards/ read the comments about the resistors.
Because that 8GB is system shared AND dedicated memory. Just as I said in my post.
Like everyone told you. Good job.

With your logic I could've flashed my GTX660 2GB to a GTX670 4GB just because it came up as 4GB memory which was completely incorrect. System memory is a thing.

Look what I found. Do the math oh flashy one.

Well adding all the info i read/viewed i do agree that changes are very very slim that it will work, simply because nvidia has most likely lasercut the pcb and therefore flashing a 980 bios is not gonna fix that, i already knew that much when creating this thread, but the main question from my opening post remains, why is there a Total available graphics memory of 7915 MB shown in my 970's properties???

I Think mine is a cut down 1080 Ti, where can I download more ROP's and some HBM4 memory ?

And to be serious for a moment, you have DEDICATED 4GB OF RAM, 4GB OF ACTUAL RAM ON YOUR CARDS. The 8GB you see is the dedicated memory on the card, + SOME of your SYSTEM RAM that is on connected to your CPU. And some of this memory can be used to storage video memory when your GPU is our of any more DEDICATED GDDR5 memory.

Its shared memory, Windows will double the dedicated memory on the card and use system ram to buffer the GPU

And this is exactly where the communication problems occurs, so let me clarify my thought process.

I read on multiple occasions that Nvidia/AMD and others, use 1 hardware design for in the end multiple products, and then they downgrade these product, be it via a modified bios/removing certain hardware parts etc, something AMD showed in the past with some of their CPU's.
So keeping that in mind, combined with the fact that my windows shows the following info and i read that others were "successful" in flashing their 970 bios to a 980 bios : \

Total available graphics memory : 7915 MB
Dedicated Video Memory : 4096 MB
System video memory : 0 MB
Shared System memory : 3819 MB

The question occurred, if maybe MY GTX 970 is in fact a bios downgraded GTX 980, no body was able to answer that question so far, all i hear is the same thing about the rops/tmu etc etc not being the same, but this all based on comparisons between stock gpu values shown in GPU-Z, so to me that does not mean that i cannot be done.

The reason i aborted the process is simple, because it showed a warning that was not mentioned in the tutorials i viewed, now this is a warning one should expect when overwriting the bios/hardware ID's from a 970 to a 980, so now surprise there ( for me that is )

The 970 is a laser cut down 980 as others on this forum have stated....you're trying to make your argument that your card might be a 980 based of what windows is displaying?

I'm no expert at OS's but pretty sure what you are seeing there is Windows taking 3.8 mb of your system ram as Shared memory and adding it to the memory available on the gpu. A 980 only has 4 gigs of memory itself, so not sure why you would even think this is an indicator that your card is a 980 that is bios flashed down to a 970 to begin with.

If you are unhappy with the way your 970 performs, I'd suggest selling it before you ruin it, and buy whatever card you want/need for what performance levels you are seeking.

In the end i shall not flash it to a 980, conclusion reached.

Time for bed, show is over people, that will be 5$ per person watching.

No please do, you have succeeded in creating as much drama as you set out to in this attention seeking thread.... couple of sayings spring to mind.... "stupid is as stupid does" "an idiot and his money are soon parted" and lastly "never argue with an idiot as they will drag you down to their level and beat you on experience".... safe to say all 3 and countless more apply in this thread...... shut the door on your way out when you climb back under the rock from whence you came.

GPU you mean the actual chip with the thermal paste on it , or do you mean the product we refer to as a GPU?
if you do not know or understand the difference between a gpu which is the main chip and a graphics card which hosts the GPU on its PCB then i think we are failing to educate you

You're the only one who has trolled tonight mr "newly registered no post count, I'm going to start a controversial thread on a tech resource forum and completely disregard everyone until I have suckered enough people in and don't follow through with my idiotic plan which everyone was telling me in the first place"

I'm betting you have one of these like begging accounts on facebook too?:nutkick:

the questions weren't the issue. It was your replies and insistence going against the facts presented that people took exception to.
