The SilverStone MS12 goes for the USB-C Gen 2x2 interface, which is important if you want to retain as much performance as possible when using the USB-C interface with a modern NVMe drive. With an uncompromising approach to cooling, the M12 also aims to keep your drive cool at all times.

Nice looking enclosure, but wondering why they wasted the R&D effort on a Gen 3 interface instead of Gen 4, seems like a step in the wrong direction to me......

I no longer agree.* I may get one for my new 4K video project.

*Tomorrow below is right. I should have checked. :banghead:

Because USB interface sets the limit. Using Gen4 internally while using USB 20Gbps externally would have made it more expensive while providing no benefit.
Gen4 on this kind of product does not make sense until we get USB4 that doubles the bandwith to 40Gbps. That wont happen until 2022 tho platform (Z690) supporting USB4 will launch this year.

Even so the benefit will be minimal (4GB/s max vs Gen3 3,5GB/s max). Using Gen4 would make much more sense for Thunderbolt 5 at 80Gbps.

Corporations are like a tree full of monkeys... the ones at the top look down & see all those smiley faces & assume everything is fine. However, the ones at the bottom look up & guess what they see: A bunch of dirty, greedy assholes preparing to shit on them again

A subset of the real truth?

Life is like a tree full of monkeys... the ones at the top look down & see all those smiley faces & assume everything is fine. However, the ones at the bottom look up & guess what they see: A bunch of dirty, greedy assholes preparing to shit on them again ... not a box of chocolates, soft centers are vapourware!

Senior managers are Seagulls: they fly in to steal all the best chips and then while flying away shit on all the good workers.

The Crows (birds) own the property on which the house in which we live is situated ... they just chose us, humans, to maintain the place.

Are there even any PCIe Gen 4-to-USB controller chips out there? And as mentioned above, it's not like there are any USB interfaces out there that can keep up with PCIe 4.0 speeds anyhow. There's always TB3/USB4, but then you're looking at an entirely different class of product - likely 2x the price.

This looks like a good option, and I like the overall design - finally something where the heatsink screws down onto the SSD rather than having it slide in from an end. That part always baffles me - I get that it's cheap to produce, but you literally can't have any type of TIM (pads, paste, whatever) in between if you're sliding the drive in, not without either messing up contact, ruining the pad outright, etc. I had an order for an Orico case get cancelled by Amazon for some reason, I might look at getting one of these instead - the price is the same in Sweden at least.
