I was looking around the net the other day before I made my recent purchase of two XFX HD6950 1Gb and found out.... there is really nothing on it. Sure I could get a great idea on how powerful the card was. Because there is allot of information on that for 6950 1gb cards. But there is no information on things like....
Temps
Voltage Control
Pictures of the PCB
Vreg cooling
RAM Cooling
The Length of the card
Does this card have a BIOS Switch?
and other things.....
So I decided after I got my cards I would fix some of those questions in case other people are wondering the same things. So while I was replacing the Stock TIM on the cards.... I took some pictures.
The card in questions is this model....
Lets start off with the Temps.....
The temps are pretty consistent with the stock 2Gb 6950. They are pretty warm especially in Xfire setups. I don't have pics.... this is the place I did not take pics so I gues your going to have to take my word on it.
In Furmark....
Top Card 88c Bottom Card 77c
Leveled out at for me after 4 Mins.
Gaming for 3 hours Just Cause 2
Top Card 82c Bottom 73c
Max they went.
Like I said I am not doing this for major data on how they run. So I did no more further testing..... But yes it's true.... the 6950 2gb and 1gb's do run warm!
So for those with small cases...... Your in luck. If you were upset that you would not be able to buy a 6950 or 6970 because your case was to small.... well your chances just got better. These cards are a 10 1/4 inches. Still not the smallest cards but compared to their 11 1/8 inch 2gb cousin... it is a big difference for some!
Here is a pic.....
Now I realized I botched that measurement up just a little. I took the measurement from the front of the DVI ports to the way back.
If you are just concerned with only the body length.... it is more like
9 3/4 inches
Next lets get too Voltage control..... Drum Roll please........
Yes!!!!it does have voltage control. The Voltage controller is a Chil Voltage Controller and it is already supported by MSI Afterburner and Sapphire Trixx. As a Matter of fact it is the same one used on the Sapphire 6950 1gb card.
All and all the PCB from the Sapphire 6950 1gb and the PCB from the XFX HD6950 1Gb is the same PCB.
Here are some pics.....
I do apologize that the pics aren't closer but my camera is a piece of crap! But you can kind of make it out.
Now for the last few questions all rolled into a couple more pics.....
PCB Pic Over head
Heat sink Pics....
BIOS Switch Pics.....(Actually the Sapphire Card and this card share the same PCB except for this feature as far as I can tell.)
Not Bad in case they release a 6970 1Gb or you want to flash to maybe the Sapphire BIOS.
Last Pics of the Box and accessories.....
As far as the fan goes..... it is a high powered fan. It is definitely quieter then my XFX 6870's blower fans. But it is still louder at high speeds. So if you want a little bit quieter then stock this is an option.
Other then that.... I hope this might answer questions for people thinking about buying this card. If you have any other questions for me please don't hesitate to ask.
Enjoy Guys.... I know I am
