QX9770, Bootleg Heatsink and Overclocking

looks like you already know what you need to do then :toast:

haha.. I suppose I do. What I need to do is get an i5 and SLi my cards -_- I might just sit tight where i am and wait til haswell and SLI then as well. Might make more sense.

man....

really, just shut up and spend your money already :laugh:

you clearly want to! BF3 is pretty intense with all the eyecandy on so its a win win situation however you look at it. stop using Haswell as an excuse!

haha well sadly right now I only have one or the other as an option if I am going to spend. either upgrade to SLI or get the i5/mobo combo. In that situation, I think that SLI will be bottlenecked by my current setup. I dunno tho.

do the i5/mobo combo, make a solid base to build on. as for the QX9700 you can either make it into a folding machine and crunch for TPU or leave it in the back as a back up rig incase things go wrong (and things do go wrong....ask crazyeyesreaper)

Fair enough. Then my Haswell excuse becomes an annoyance in my mind, simply because this current gen of processors (the 2500k came out like two years ago?) Is going to be on the back end of the tick-tock cycle. I feel like Haswell will be to the i5-2500k as the i5 was to my processor.. and there goes my dilemma all over again. I guess the biggest question is... are there going to be any games that end up bottlenecking the 2500k anytime int he next 2~ years.

well shit man if you're wanting 100 FPS then yeah you'll need to upgrade. What the hell why even ask, it's an obvious thing lol. or at least mention that in the OP. MOST people, especially those with strict budgets debating on whether to spend $30, don't have high demands like that. If you're just shitting cash then buy a whole damn new rig and get it done

hahaha fair enough. I mean.. I've done a fair amount of upgrading lately. I feel like at low settings with the 670 I could possibly squeeze out 100-120 on BF3. I guess I overestimated the QX9770.

I could also always just be satisfied with what I am doing currently... :shadedshu

In the long run, this thread is about validating what I already know I need to do, but trying to figure out where the best bang for the buck is on the next upgrade.. or whether I should just wait since I won't actually be able to leap from my current setup to 100+ constant FPS without spending on SLI AND the mobo/CPU upgrade.

the new PS4 and xbox are using less powerful tech and devs arent gonna stop porting rubbish over. I would say youre in the clear. As far as BF3 goes, it was a game that was designed from the ground up to be a PC game. you might get a small handful of games like those but i think the rest will just be consolized crap anyone with a half decent mid range pc can play

Yeah amen to this. From my understanding, unreal engine will be the only big upgrade in the next few years, but I am not really sure how taxing that will be aside from their silly claim that "ONLY KEPLER CAN HANDLE US!"

This makes a possible new thread but I'll keep it here... if I were to do this, would it make any sense to go ivy bridge and spend an extra $50-$100 on the Z77/IB combo, or should I just get me a P67 or whatever the good sandy bridge is, and get a 2500k? Either way the mobo's are obsolete when Haswell comes out, so the question is.. IB/Z77 is what.. PCIE3.0, and a few other technologies that make no difference?

Edit: Also, I know IB has this heat issue thing, but apparently that is pretty nominal.

the same way how Nvidia said only SLi'd 590's or SLi'd 580's could be able handle BF3 in ultra settings id expect.

That was quite a big spin on Nvidia's part on the build upto the release when there was hardly any info out there about the system requirements needed to play the game.

People here have been playing it on ultra settings without the need for such overpriced and overkill hardware (such as myself)
