It's sad to hear that Katherine Johnson age 101 passed away. She was so vital to the math to get us to leave orbit And return.
The movie Hidden Figures highlights her as well as many others in the fast pace for mankind to achieve the biggest event in spaceflight.

It is. A tragedy every Friday and Saturday night for me when I get in the sauce. Who am I kidding, it is most nights.

That said, I think it was great that people eventually got to hear the roll she played. Now, if only the contractors would get their due. NASA employees never really did much, anyway, except take credit. And leave cocaine in the tail of the orbiter.

I think it's a stretch to say as a whole they did not accomplish much, but there certainly were moments that could be called, shall we say "learning experiences."

And that's being generous at times, because often it lacked the learning.

But the program as a whole has certainly accomplished great things. Giving credit where credit is due is... mixed but meh.

Luckily, math hasn't changed much in many hundreds of year so luckily the knowledge won't be lost. What I think has been lost is the desire, love, and her natural ability.

For every NASA employee, there are, well were, 5 to 10 contractors designing shuttle, the systems, running the electrical, glueing tiles to the orbiter, hell doing half the math. The feds, the, Good ole boys? Sitting on their asses throwing around stories about how great the 60s were. All that said, Kennedy Space Center, or KSC, is locally known as Keep Slacking Charlie regardless of fed or contractor.
