R4870 Powerplay States

I've got 4 states:
1. Boot
2. Power saving for notebooks in battery mode, High performance, Optimal performance
3. UVD
4. Power saving for notebooks in battery mode, High performance, Optimal performance

What's the difference between 2 and 4? The description doesn't sound right, as this is a desktop part.

Each state has 3 modes. When is each of the modes used?
What does enable superior powerplay do? It's not grayed out, but the clocks and voltages don't change.

1) You haven't really given us enough information. I will assume that you are talking about a video card.... Is that even right?

You did read the title, right? Radeon 4870 Powerplay States...

2) Where? Are these within power management, catalyst control center, or some other application?

3) What are you looking to do? Asking a random question, with no framing, will get you no responses.

Does that matter?
FYI: I'm trying to lower the non-3D clocks (and voltage) to reduce fan noise without having to run third-party apps.

I think I got it: 2 is for 1 monitor, 4 is for 2 monitors.
