R5 3600 all core load speed/frequency on B450 motherboard

Hi there,

I have a question regarding my hardware. I'm using a Gigabyte B450M-DS3H with Ryzen 5 3600, all stock, with a hyper 212 cooler and was wondering what the all core boost frequency should be. I'm getting 3.8-3.9ghz during cinebench and Aida 64 benchmark, temps are just under 70c, but I've noticed that the CPU package power won't go above 90W. For general use, boost clocks do reach 4.2ghz. I've already updated the bios to the latest F50 version.

If I had a more solid/well built motherboard with better vrms, would this increase my all core boost frequency due to better power delivery?

Even with both better cooling and a better motherboard you at best would be getting another 50- 75mhz so not really worth the investment. your clocks seem pretty inline with most 3600. 90 watts also seems about right for that chip as the dual ccx chips like mine hit about 150-160w under normal boost.

I was getting around 3900~3950MHz back at August with CPU ~75C.
Now is around, 3990~4000MHz during CB R20 at 63~65C.

Make sure...
you have the latest BIOS/UEFI installed for your board for ZEN2
latest chipset drivers directly from AMD (November)
Windows10 1909, and the right powerplan selected (I'm using 1usmus v1.1 Ryzen Universal plan)

By the way I'm using a X570 board so could be the difference, but not sure.

Well, on a X570 I could get at most close to 4200 Mhz all-core boost on stock (Wraith Stealth) cooling. However that only lasts for a few seconds and then slowly goes back to 3900/3800 all core, because of thermal throttling.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
TPU's own review did a core/clock boost analysis that showed their 3600 staying at a stable 4.2GHz for all cores.

I assume those are peak boosts, not sustained boosts. Mine sits between 3925 and 3950MHz under sustained load.

FWIW I'm using an Asrock B450 Steel Legend, 1.0.0.4B BIOS and, Noctua NH-U12 with two fans and PBO enabled in the BIOS.
