Hi there!

I really can't decide between the three of them. ;)

Has anyone gained experience with one of these cards?

The R6950 TwinFrozr II seems to be the coolest and quietest in idle, but it's definitively louder under load. The PowerColor PCS++ has a "Dual-Bios" and can be easily unlocked to a HD6970, but the noise level is too high in idle. The new Sapphire just looks good, I haven't found any review in the internet.

I don't know what to buy.

Thanks for any helpful hints. :)

Regards

Currently, the WINNER card in terms of cooler, sound, power consumption, and PHENOMENAL OVERCLOCK AND PERFORMANCE is

MSI HD6870 HAWK Twin FroZr III

Review here by TWEAKTOWN - Core OC to 1057MHz o.0.(benchies included, it beats HD6950 and matches HD6970 in some games)

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/38...hawk_overclocked_video_card_review/index.html
The 6950 can overclock too. ;)
My vote goes to the PowerColor and adjust the fans speed in MSI Afterburner.

Edit: By the way in that review the 6950 still beats the 6870 @1057Mhz.

i think hes talking about this one
Yep, that's right. I thought this card is available in a 2GB version as well. But that seems to be wrong. ;)

The HD6870 is for sure a very good card, but prospectively the 2GBs and some other better factors of the HD6950 will pay off.

Just by the way: I've used up to recently a Gigabyte GTX560 Ti. Because of many crashes while playing and a noisy, buzzing fan I've sent this card back to the shop. Now I'm looking for another options and the R6950 is a very good alternative, in my opinion. ;)

Well the Performance summary says so.
May be you should look more than a couple of games.

6950 has a different shader architecture as well. Don't get me wrong. I have a pair of TwinFrozrII 6870s that are beasts, but in this instance, the 6950 is the smarter buy.

As to OPs question, the TwinFrozr II is a beast of a cooler...and to the comment about "loud under load", my 6870s never really ramp up on auto, and at 50% fan speed they are cool and quite. The fans really don't get annoying til about 75-80%. Good Luck :toast:

Really nice. But my mainboard doesn't support CrossFire and I don't want to pay too much. Two of the R6870s TWII would cost me around 400€ (540$) and I don't want to pay so much money for graphic cards. ;)

Thanks for this information.
But is there a difference between the TwinFrozrs (HD6870 | HD6950)?

PowerColor PCS++ 6950 Second bios unlocks to 6970 from the factory well except the ram speed but shader units and clock speed of 6970 without flashing. The fan noise won't be so bad.

No...they are both the exact same cooler. Same as on the TwinFrozr II 460, etc. The card is different, but the cooler is the same.
