Racing is on

Got this wheel over the black friday. Have been trying out different VR racing sims. So far project cars 2 seems to be working the best.

Not much latency, just need to dial in the the seat height. It works almost perfect.

i tried AssetoCorsa which had fairly bad VR dupport. Project Cars 2 is the most polished one so far.

I do wish Froza Horrizon 4 supports VR mode


The strangest thing is driving with VR HMD i started driving like im on the road: speed limit and actually slow down to turn. It feels so different from driving with either controller or keyboard

Dude i bet. I just do the "voyages" on my gear vr, where it's just a vr video of ppl flying or skydiving, and it's pretty legit. Driving games on a high end headset like that i would prolly be fake leaning from the non-existent Gs im pulling.

Yep exactly my reaction. I was trying to lean left at a tight corner. I guess my brain’s driving mapping portion was seriously confused.

I am looking foward to stuff like American truck simulator to have VR support. Operating a big rig while enjoy some nice views.

Project cars 2 in VR is excellent and I do love driving in it, probably more than just normally with a flat panel. Also you have the same setup for VR racing as I do lol

I have G29 + Oculus Rift. Bought like 2 years ago. I was so excited playing racing games in VR. So far I agree with You that PC2 is most polished game You can play in VR.
I have played Forza Horizon 4 with G29 and got so frustrated that I stopped playing racing games with G29 at all. Now its sitting here attached to my other table, eating dust since last year. FH4 sucks to be played with racing wheel, its meant only for controller.

Other game I would suggest You to play on wheel is F1 2018 and 2019. Drifting game sucks on wheel, as there is not counter weight and You don't feel any "real" feeling and its hard to drift atleast for me .

It is optimized, wheel response is fine. Just the game doesnt feel what You would expect it to be. There is no G-force obviously so it will take so many hours to get used to that light steering feel while drifting.

That's mostly the wheel influence, not HMD. Many moons ago I bought Logitech MOMO for my younger brother, cause he was obsessed with racing games (Now he grew up into a bearded WRX owner). That was the first time I could comfortably play games like Grid and Dirt. On a controller or KB I would always smash into walls and other cars, if driving assists are turned off. Somehow, even if you are not a driver, associations in your brain make you lean and react to speed/turns just the same. Heck, I even do it while playing EA's Real Racing 3 on my phone, including fake Gs )))

I thought its only me being unable to play Mario Kart Tour while walking
would love to try a wheel and headset though...

I have to say I really like Dirt Rally in VR with a wheel. Did you have a wheel that uses force feedback? It's my favorite Racing game atm in VR.

My brother in law has it and plays it on an old i7 870, 16gb with a gtx1060 with a wheel and pedals using a CV1. It handles it really well. We are building him a Ryzen R5 at the beginning of the year. My R5 2600, 16gb with rtx2070 plays it great as well.

I've been racing VR for the last couple of years, no comparison to flat screen. Not sure about the comment the AC is not so good, as it is in my opinion the best optimised VR racing experience there is.

pCars is good, PCars2 is good, dirt rally 2 is good, though again optimisation not so good. ACC looks great with everything turned up, but again not very well optimized, so have to turn it down.

RF2 feels great, but doesn't look as good. VR will get you a quicker lap, it just feels right.

Dirt Rally 2.0 feels awesome in VR, even with a gamepad.
